Is running Crysis on very high in XP by editing some of the files w/in Crysis possible if I buy the game through Steam?

(Silly quesiton, but thought I'd ask): I have an 8800gt, Crysis demo ran really well on it w/settings altered to "very high;" becayse I've never run a game this demanding through steam before, I'd like to know: will steam cause a performace hit at all?

Ya, it'll work, but unless you're playing 1024x768 it's not going to run well at very high.

I do play @ 1024x768 (gasp!), I'm a big fan of the nice little "touches" that very high throws in even at a lower resolution.

So Steam = no performance hit at all?

No, Steam is just a platform to launch your games from. Make sure to disable "Steam Community in-game" because that can affect performance a little.
