Indeed, it'll cost me 2 - 3 PS3's to play the game 'as intended'... and thats a bit of an outlay for the one game!

I was dismayed at how Oblivion ran on my desktop... such a nice treat to just slap the game in the PS3 and play it!

Ok, no mods, but I find the eternal quest of mod management and getting patches a bore. Spent more time tinkering with mods than playing the game. Also a right pain when you put a texture mod in and one day come across a strangely textured tree or something.

It will be quite the irony if they pull it off for consoles getting both framerate and picture quality at the same time.

If anything it'll be like Far Cry for the consoles - simplified and less open ended.

I don't think Crysis at full specs (dx.9) looks that much better than Killzone 2, Uncharted, Gran Turismo 5 (@ 1080p, specacular), and Far Cry 2 which from what I understand is coming to the consoles. http://www.clan-themes.co.uk/article253-far-cry-2-game-footage-leaked.html - Probably not at these exact settings but, they could pull it off. Crysis just needs to be optimized better in my opinion.

Crysis has not been confirmed or announced to be coming to consoles. This is the CryENGINE2, not Crysis. It's being shown at the Game Developers Conference to show any potential licensees who want to use it on consoles.

It will be also interesting what would be the 'budget PC for less than $600 (keyboard and mouse included)' that can run well the fully optimized engine.

There have been rumours of a Crysis-like game for the PS3 being developed by Crytek.

i don't think it's gonna work unless they strip down the game which means worse graphics and physics( the game's main atrractions and possibly what makes it worth playing!), so it's just not worth it..

It would definitely kick a lot of people in the nuts if they could port the game to the consoles and keep it looking great...

They have the opportunity to fine tune their engine for use on standardized hardware.

Hell, the engine will be so optimized, I HOPE they port Crysis over! It'll probably look better than is easily possible on a PC. At least until they get to optimizing the PC version.

I'm guessing Crysis on 360/PS3 graphically would resemble the PC version on high settings except for shaders + shadows--those 2 would be on low-medium. No AA, 30fps, trilinear filtering, and rendered less than 720p, then upscaled. Also the levels themselves would be changed and "segmented" to fit in that tiny amount of RAM--ala half life 2.

In the end, Crysis on 360/PS3 would look like....most other 360/PS3 games.

I agree with this hypothesis. Consoles only have so much power and once that power is reached there is only so much you can do. I like how they are porting the CryEngine to consoles mainly so every game won't look like Unreal Tournament 3. We just can't expect the game to look like Crysis on the PC because consoles don't have enough power to do that, heck even an 8800Ultra doesn't have enough power to do that.

Wouldn't the power of running only games be more powerful than "simulating" behind Window?

For reason I think those saying this wont happen or will turn out bad...

The Cryengine2 is still being optimized for sure since they announced its 7 year lifespan...

And I am sure they will introduce more "console" techniques to fake it and make it look very good...

Didnt we already establish the fact that even though the PS3 has very little RAM... its blazing fast ?

Mmmhhh... isn't that RAM determines the amount of information loaded (like a scenario, etc.) and has nothing to do with speed? Am I right or am I missing some other point? I'm open to commentaries.

Yeah but it has two sets of 256mb I think... if it can fetch thing very very fast and store them on the HDD so they can be refetched very fast... idk...

Im not too keen on it...

    Anyone?

For the most part yes. From a RAM point of view, PS3 and 360 would be better off with twice as much RAM running half as fast. They are RAM limited, not bandwidth limited.

I am on a Ps3 forum, they have a thread on this. Its around 3-5 pages long.

They actually think that the Ps3 will be able to run Crysis effectively.

I laugh at them being a former Ps3 owner and current 360 owner.

Neither console can compare to a Quad core desktop with a SINGLE 8800 GTX or Ultra.

I'm willing to bet that if they decide to bring crysis to the consoles it will be optimized much better than the pc version and look better than most would expect. After all there is a lot more money to be made making console games than there is making games for the pc, and people tend to work harder if it means more money in their pockets.

Consoles will never look better than what's possible on a PC, even with tons of optimization, PCs are capable of using far superior hardware.
