wow - running it in dx9 in vista over dx10 gave me a huge boost. all medium 1280x800 was going at 20-25, now in dx9 its 30-35

I've been unable to get the console to come up. Pressing ~ doesn't do anything. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I have an A8JS and with the latest 169 drivers I can't even run in 1024x768 with everything set to med, no AA. I ran that script file in the bin directory and it said my FPS was 8. Comedy. -
why are you tryin to get the console up?
-
Earlier posts claim you can turn on FPS and other debug info in the upper right hand corner while you're playing. I think Blackbird posted it. You bring up the console and enter a few codes.
I just wanted to see what settings I have to modify to get the game smooth on my system. Graphics are pretty incredible, although I'd like to run in widescreen. -
create a shortcut of crysis... right click "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin32\Crysis.exe" -dx9
just add -dx9 at the and with space... as mentioned in another thread
works like a charm...
now you can play the game much better... -
Yes, Blackbird noted here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=182528&page=3
the following:
open up the console by pressing ~
type in "r_displayinfo 1" without quotes and it will display the fps
type in "r_displayinfo 2" without quotes and it will remove the fps and the prelease demo sign. -
pavilion - The Go7700 only supports Dx9c. I can't even use dx10 whizzy features. Will that really help out that much even for Dx9c cards?
Yeah, I've pressed ~ until my finger hurt. No console. -
oh ok i thought you were trying to run the game in dx9 mode... while i was typing my massege you already had answered why you need the console...
sometimes forums are like instant messaging
you can use fraps for framerates if you dont get console... -
Alright, just fooled around with settings to see the best I can get with playable frame rates.
Resolution: 1680x1050
Settings: Everything on Very High, Shadows and Shaders on High
Average FPS: 27
Using rig in sig, NO OVERCLOCKS. 169.01 Beta Drivers, Vista X64.
I think Crytek pulled through on their optimization. I really didn't think a single stock GTX would be able to crank the settings that high when they stated it would be 2-3 years futureproof. So stop whining boys, this baby's a performer. -
does anyone have a good download link... I'm running Utorrent and only getting 60 kbps. I want to play it tonight, not in the morning. I'm really hoping that my rig can play it on med with a decent resolution. after playing rainbow six vegas I am kind of doubting my rigs power
-
***UPDATE***
Running this beauty on DX9 mode which helps a lot... 1024x640 everything on low...
The game is Playable...

For those who cant get the console running could you try this
First off the console can't be opened by pressing a combination of things I think, so say if you access the ~ key by pressing Shift + some key, dont, just press the "some key"
On UK keyboards sometimes **** gets messed up
The console is usually accessed by pressing the button on the left side of the number 1, not on the numpad but the number keys on top of the letter keys.
Sometimes for me, such as in UT3 the console is accessed by pressing the second key on the right side of key L.
In some other games i cant remember which the console is accesses by one of the three keys on the right side of L and before Enter key.
Also its worth noting the above is on XP, when I was on Vista, I couldn't get the console to open no matter what key I pressed. Other people had this problem too and so far I haven't been able to find a solution. Note this is not a universal vista problem, most can access the console just fine, a few unlucky ones on vista cant at all.
Hope this helped
Im sorry about the r_driver=DX9 command
I was getting my information from tweak guides author who is working on the crysis tweak guide but its not yet fully published on the site.
To see his views these are the two threads

advanced tweaks
http://forums.tweakguides.com/showthread.php?p=75415#post75415
After re-reading the advanced tweaks, it is my bad about the r_driver=DX9 method
In fact you are not supposed to enter this in the console, but rather in the System.cfg file
Soz for the trouble -
where is the system.cfg i cant see it in crysis folder
-
If you then want to add/customize the commands in a personal config file, the way to do it is to create a file called System.cfg, and place it under your \Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo directory. Now within this file, you can add various commands, for example if you want to keep your Post Processing at High in the game, but just disable motion blur, then enter the following in System.cfg:
r_MotionBlur=0
To run in dx9 under vista add
r_driver=DX9
source = tweakguides
For those looking for an easier method just do this
To run it in DX9 under Vista you just have to right-click to game icon, located in Vistas Game folder (under Music, Pictures etc). Then you get the option to start in DX9 or DX10. -

im getting 20-30 FPS on 1024x768 everything on low avg at 22FPS with x1600

P.S. I think it's not gonna be playable on DX10 until like GeForce 10xxx or Radeon 4xxx -
I think a geforce 99xx will play crysis fine in directx10
-
BLEHE!!! Maybe your not cranking up on game play... I mean Hundreds of alien ships, freeze effects, the environment completely changing, sun up down, trees falling, AI,.... Im sure itll come to low pointDid you try running it in DX10 with physics and everything on such as AA AF
-
. I'll test that out as well on Nov 16 I suppose.

-
Why aren't they click able...ill tell you why, since they show settings on low.
Your pictures are of the game on everything LOW -
-
Ok u guys either dont wanna believe that this game can run well or u guys need bigger glasses! When did i ever say i had shadows on? I said everything high except shadows and shaders!
-
nvm u just fixed it -

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah, those rocks have no texture to them. Also the object quality is definitely not high. Oh yeah forgot to mention BB in my testing the objects were on medium not high also.
-
Yep, put shadows and shaders to medium, if you must put shadows to low but keep shaders to medium...and the game will look fantastic.
no probs forerunner, im just using everything medium and game looks and plays just fine.
i cranked settings to high to see how it looked....it did look somewhat different but when im playing, like killing people in the game I hardly notice the difference -
Well its personal preference! I think if i want it smooth then i should lower some of the eye candy!
-
-
i set the object quality to high but this is the quality i'm getting...
-
put shaders to medium and youl notice a difference, everything will look great.

The Test System
Computer rig in sig
windows xp pro sp2
game was running on DX9 and core 600 shader 1400 memory 500
resolution 1280x1024
all setting high
water is incredible in DX9
god I love the detail on that turtle lol
Sleeping time
The rock looks great too
The passage looks scary in mid-night
Flare looks incredible vibrant and detail and really like smoke
Even trees look like they meant to be. textures are unbelivable
The beauty
Where you going buddy
Ready for ambush?
That's it folks. This test was actually intended for stress test for my video card after running 30 mins or so. I will run the game again and make it more playable when I got home later today (I don't wanna get caught playing game at work lol ). The game still somewhat playable to some degree but 2x~3x frame rate will be so much better. -
Heres a screenshot too
Settings all medium, shadows on low @ 1024 x 768 (haven't tried anything else, will do later on)
System in sig, 8600M GT @ 603/1400/470
-
Although many have complained of how un-optimized the game is since it seems it's very hard to play all settings on high at a high resolution (including myself) it still looks great on medium settings. I'm very surprised at how good it looks on some of the lower resolution and lowerst settings screenshots.
-
I will just post my FRAPS for 800x600 all low settings, I was really happy I could play the game on my x1400 (515/445):
2007-10-28 17:20:50 - Crysis
Frames: 64576 - Time: 2613599ms - Avg: 24.707 - Min: 0 - Max: 64 -
Shaders especially help with adding depth to objects:
- You can see the depth in the wood grains
- The rocks look much more realistic
- All of the walls have added depth
- Metal objects like roof shingles and trucks get some added roughness.
^
Those screens are at all medium settings except Textures and Shaders on High, but I've tweaked the .cfg of those two settings to be less intensive than usual (while still having the overall affect). I have it looking absolutely beautiful but I can still get around 20 FPS, which, while not ideal, is playable (and worth it for looking that good.) -
what do you do in cfg... we have almost the same settings, so we must have the same performance... i have 64 bits vista...

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Update. I can get 25 fps with High textures and everything at high except shadows and shaders at medium with 1280 x 1024.
I take back what I said about crysis. It is pretty scalable, though the game doesn't look gorgeous its looks damn good at these settings. -
It seems Geforce 8600mGT is a good performer after some overclocking in Crysis
I was skeptical about how 8600mGT gonna do in crysis but seeing the forerunner and some others and myself included all doing pretty well with reasonable settings and resolution leads me to believe that 8600mgt driver is coming off quite nicely. 8600mGT isn't just like some updated Geforce 7600M like some people speculate about, it's a class of its own, a superior one. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
^Well said my friend. Though my average is about 18 with those previous setttings and low was 14. With shadows on low and high tex, medium shaders and high everything else game runs and looks great. I get an average of 23-low 18 and high 26. I'm not a huge fan of shadows; on low you don't have a shadow of course because you are the most taxing shadow but certain features of the environment, do. I noticed the big jump in performance right away.
