Anyone know if any of the OEM's still have any laptops with dedicated RAM and an IGP? I'm hoping to find a reasonably priced laptop with X1270 and some dedicated memory. I care too much too much about battery life to go with a dedicated GPU, but I like the small boost in speed that some dedicated memory can give you.

(Before someone tries to flame me - AMD/ATI IGP's are capable of having dedicated RAM ever since the 200M. I just can't find any of them available with better than an X1100. It looks like HP stopped offering any dedicated memory options and I don't know of any other manufactures that ever allowed it.)

Right now, all IGPs have shared memory. You are correct that the x200m came with some dedicated memory, but right now there aren't that I know of.

if you put two identical units to work; one with all integrated and one with a 50/50 split of dedicated/shared, you would not notice the difference as a user. you may think you do, but actual benchmarks will show otherwise.

I'd differ with you on that one. I'm currently on an old ATI 200M with 128MB (64MB dedicated and 64MB pulled from system memory I belive) and it pulled better benchmarks than the no-memory versions. Let me try to pull up some old benchmarks.

Actually they do perform faster. I've compared an Xpress 200m with 128mb dedicated to one with pure shared memory, it turns out both gaming AND benchmarks were doubled with the dedicated one..

If you look at the pictures in this review you will see that the Radeon X1270 can indeed have dedicated memory:

The above poster(s) are right though, no current notebook has an integrated GPU with dedicated memory banks.
