I'm planning on purchasing UT2004 later today and I had a few questions about the resolution.

I've been playing the demo (which, might I add, is awesome) for a while. When I was playing with the video settings, I looked through the options for resolution but didn't see 1440x900. I would love to have the game running in my native resolution.

Anyway, is there a 1440x900 option in the full game, possibly available through applying the latest patches? If not, are there any programs that would allow me to apply a custom resolution to the game? I saw a program called UniWS, but I was looking through the list of supported games and UT2004 was absent. Perhaps this list is outdated? Is there a different program that would let me use 1440x900?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. I'm looking forward to purchasing the game, reguardless of whether or not I can use my native resolution.

Its been awhile since I've played 04, but if I recall it supported my native resolution (1920x1200) by default. I'm sure theres a way to make it recognize yours, even if you have to manually change it in the ini.

Great! I edited the ini and put in my resolution and it worked great! Thanks for the reply.

Elias, so is it stretched or is it actually wide screen?
I am too lazy and sleepy to try :p

I took some screenshots to compare and it doesn't look much different from the 1280x800 option. I'm not sure if it didn't work or if it stretches it, but the differences aren't very noticable.

When I do the editing, I go back to the game and the resolution has 1440x900 in the menu, but it looks very similar to 1280x800.

If there is a way to do this with better results, I'm all ears. This was worth a shot, but I don't notice much/any difference. Perhaps I did something wrong?

Added: I was messing around with the FOV. I changed it to 100 and it was an improvement. I'm not sure of what FOV is the best, but 100, 106, and 120 all worked pretty good. I think 100 is recomended for 16:10 and 106 for 16:9, but I'm not totally certain. The last one I tried was 100, I believe, and I left it at that.

FOV is the Field of View -- it controls how much of the environment around you that you see. So if your FOV is set to 100, picture a 100 degree vision cone coming from your character -- thats what you can see.

Is there some mathematical equation to figure out what to set it to on wide screens (16:10) to get the correct aspect ratio ... or is 100 the correct value?

This thread at WideScreenGamingForum.com should help a bit. It's got a lot of information on what to do. I briefly skimmed through the pages and settled on a few values that I'd try. I'm not sure if I'm using the correct ones, but they better than the default of 90. :p
