Release is scheduled for tomorrow. Anyone on here thinking of giving it a try?
I hear level 30 is cap. I know from reviews that it's console friendly but that doesn't bother me as long the content is good and the missions are fun.

    Anyone?

    Best Wishes,

I played during the beta and enjoyed myself, just not enough to pay a sub for it. The combat was entertaining until you got to more advanced skills that required you to use Street Fighter like combos to pull off. Powers are bound to your skillbar, however your weapon requires you to do combinations with mouseclicks and WASD keys to pull off. I get the feeling that you'll go through lots of mice and keyboards if you play this game for awhile.

Quests were the same generic fetch or kill xx amount of stuff. Missions were fun when going up with or against figures from DC lore. Not enough villains on during beta for pvp to be competitive so I won't comment on that.

Hope this gives you a better idea about the game. I never played CoH or Champions Online so I can't compare it to those games. Beta was already better than FFXIV, but that's not saying much. The lore and gameplay kept me engaged longer than RIFT, which felt like a combination of WoW and WAR which I had already played before.

I've been burned a few too many times on "new" MMO's (Vanguard, Conan, Aion). I think I'll sit this one out for a few months.

FYI - 16gb install (req say 30gb). Very large download for anyone interested in getting it on STEAM. I purchased disc at brick and mortar so I will install once I get home.

Anyone else going to give it a try?

It looks fun with decent variety. I'm not a fan of $15/month subscription fees, though and the game doesn't seem good enough for me to consider buying a year of game time.

If you're interested in playing this kind of game but don't want to pay monthly fees Champions Online is going F2P on Jan 25th.

DC Universe looks a lot better than Champions Online, but free-to-play is appealing :D. Is Champions Online really any good?

I'd been seriously considering a superhero RPG, rather than the fantasy and sci-fi ones I have played previously.

Didn't realise about Champions Online going free, and would be interested to hear what it's like, too....

** typing this from my phone so please bare with my spelling or grammar **

My friend recently purchased the game and I told him if he did I would take the plunge with him. As far as MMOs go, I've played a few, but combat wise id say this is absolutely the funnest to play. I've played WoW via my friends account for a bit so limited game time there, Guild Wars, Planetside, Global Agenda, and have tried others.

The story is very intruiging, mostly because I know more about DC Comic lore than warcraft, gw, etc. The voice acting is pretty good, and helps minimize the walls of textual reading other MMOs make you do. The CGI and cut scenes are pretty cool, as they're a combination of comic art and cgi movies.

The gameplay is fun. The movement is fun. The powers are fun. The weapons, for the most part, are fun. There are numerous combinations of the three, adding a different play style to each character. Powers are generally instant cast spells that have various types of damages and effects. You use numbers 1 thru 6 to cast spells, and you left and right click for weapons. Weapon moves are done based on holding and tapping the mouse buttons in particular orders. If you play fighting games, these combinations are cake.

The quests are general kill this, collect this, but they're fun. You're often fighting multiple mobs at once, and most of the time people are there fighting near you. Ganking is common in the game, however, but that's on PVP servers and to be expected.

Instances are really fun, so far. The boss fights are quite interesting, and sometimes overwelming and challenging. You get loot from mobs, and generally decent gear from bosses, as you would expect from an MMO.

Arenas are pvp where you use your character to complete an objective, like holding points on a map.
Legends are pvp where you use DC characters to complete an objective, like arenas.
Alerts are larger instances with multiple bosses, and many mini quests inside the instance. You have to complete each phase to move on.

The class roles are cool - they're all damage specs, but you focus in doing certain moves, ie, healers should heal and poison enemies when they can. Control should do crowd control, etc.

Exporation is similar to Spiderman 2, the video game. The cities are large and full of npcs and buildings, as well as players. you can free roam as much as you want, and there are little "race challenges" tasking you to complete small courses in a certain time.

Open World pvp is fun. Banding together with allies with your superpowers, killing the opposing faction, is just fun!

Complaints - I'm worried about content. The game seems short. I'm level 12, but if 30 is the cap, what things may I do at 30 to keep playing? I hope SOE figures that out.

Overall, the game is a blast, but unless you're willing to drop 49 bucks for potentially only one month of game play, wait a bit to see what happens when many become max level and see if the game keeps them interested.

I know this is mainly a PC forum, but has anyone tried this on a PS3? Wondering how the gameplay compares to console vs the PC.

I did purchase this game on Wednesday and once I started playing on Friday I could not stop. I have made over a dozen characters and levelled many of them to lvl's 4-6. I have been playing WoW since 2005 and wanted something to pull me away from it as it is somewhat stale and one big reason I played wow was top play with my son, but he is also not playing as much as we both believe the recent Cataclysm expansion has hurt the game (more unbalanced) then added to it.

I agree with you Levenly that I also am concerned about DC Online keeping people's interest once level 30 is made for a month or two. Blizzard was great with that (WoW) so we will see.

I still have much to learn in this game but I love superhero stuff as I have been a comics collector since the 1960's! Inorder for this game to really keep my interest I will have to join a good league, any ideas?
