I just installed DCS Black Shark on my desktop, but I keep getting a launcher.exe error when I try to run it (XP Professional). I tried googling the problem and couldnt get a clear cut way to fix it, I downloaded REGCURE which claimed that it could fix it but obviously it didnt. Any suggestions?

Did you download the game from DCS or buy the boxed version?

Hmm....could you be a bit more specific and describe any additional things that might have been displayed along with the error??

I bought the boxed version. I installed it as normal. I have 2 desktop icons. One for the single player and another for multiplayer. When I click on single player the screen goes white and it has a loading bar at the bottom (I can hear the music playing). After about 10-15 seconds the Windows error screen pops saying that there was a Launcher.exe error. It says that it will report the problem and then it closes.

I tried loading the multiplayer and I don't get a error, but for some reason I couldn't connect to a server. I see all the online game options. I didn't get to play the game on that either.

I was able to search the web a lil more and stumbled upon this possible solution to the Launcher error. Can someone explain in layman's terms how to go about executing each of these procedures. I will need to go back and read again what specific error was mentioned within the Launcher error. I have already upgraded the graphics drivers. Thanks

    Q: Launcher.exe errors:

    1. Empty window contents, or
    error with LuaModules\gui\WidgetTheme.cpp, or
error with blackshark\blackshark.lua :198: Lua stack corrupted!, or
    atioglxx.dll

A1: It's a known bug of new Catalist drivers (versions above 9.x). It's necessary to disable Catalyst A.I. control or set it to standard.

    2. sdl_mixer.dll mentioned in the error

    A2: Reinstall your audio drivers.

    3. Empty window contents, or
d3dx9_38.dll OR edterrain.dll mentioned in the error

A3: Reinstall your graphics card drivers.

    1. Catalyst AI is a function of the ATI Catalyst drivers. I believe you have to be in "advanced" view. Just go into your control center and set it to standard or deactivate as seen here:

    2. Audio drivers - Pretty straight forward. Either download them from your PC manufacturer website, or from the audio codec manufacturer, or from the driver CD that might have come with your PC.

    3. Graphics Drivers - Again, pretty straight forward. Since you have ATI GPU, visit ATI's website, but more than likely if it's a notebook PC then you will have to install from your manufacturer's website or provided driver CD (or DVD).

Providing details on your PC would help, especially GPU and Audio since that's what seems to be causing issue.

But try the first one and see if that fixes it!
