When gaming on a 1600x900 or 1366x768 resolution, and all other hardware being identical, would there be a big difference in performance between a DDR3 GPU and a DDR5 one? I want to buy a new laptop and the ones I can afford come with Gt750M, 8850M or 8870M which all have both DDR3 and DDR5 versions and I can't verify which kind will be in the laptop. Confused..![]()

Maybe this will help:
What's the difference between DDR3 memory and GDDR5 memory? - TechSpot Forums -

Good link. The guys there made me giggle. Excellent description if the difference though.
My opinion is get DDR5 if you can, but other factors can override it like screen quality, build quality, or crappy keyboard/trackpad. Find reviews of the machines you are considering and see what is best for your use. Edit - most good reviews specify ddr3 vs ddr5 also.
Example - I just chose a w230ss over a ge40 barebones more due to screen quality than GPU performance (860m vs 850m). -
I`d like to know if there are any significant performance difference between GTX 850M/860M with DDR3 and GDDR5.
They both should have a really quick L2 cache that should help with bandwidth but how much?
