Hi guys,
Was wondering if it is okay to use drivers directly from nVidia rather than the driver's from DELL itself.
I do know that nVidia drivers will not harm the GPU. but seems like DELL nVidia drivers are much optimized for their laptops (no surprise...)
what do you guys think... will i see any performance increase if i use drivers directly from nVidia ??
-
you want to use the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com make sure to follow instructions
-
Like was said, laptopvideo2go.com is what you need. Do not even bother with Dell drivers, they are far outdated and have none of the game and application performance and bug fixes from newer drivers.
-
Agreed with what has been said. Follow the instructions on laptopvideo2go.com
-
i normally prefer having drivers installed from a official wed site than from a third party wed site... are these drivers on laptopvideo2go.com same what's available on official nVidia web site ??
-
Yes they are, where else would they get them?
They provide a modified .inf file for your laptop to install them and recognize your card as a mobile GPU giving you all of the correct settings/options. -
thanks for clarifiying that...
but don't nVidia have drivers for mobile GPUs ??? i notice that nVidia only has driver for "series" rather than individual drivers such as 8600M GT. -
Nvidia does not include support for mobile graphics drivers because of the many different versions of the same chip being harder to support. Thus, they leave it to individual manufacturers like Dell to keep driver releases updated for their users.
laptopvideo2go.com found that by simply adding in the identification codes of mobile graphics chips in an .inf file, it was possible to utilize the most recent Nvidia driver revisions on mobile chips. In most cases, these drivers work just as they do on Desktop cards.
Laptopvideo2go is thus a very convienient service for mobile Nvidia users. -
good one stormeffect....
but is it safe to use those drivers... i mean i do know that different manufactures of laptops have different clock speeds and stuff for the same GPU... if the driver is not optimized for such a changes it may not be safe for the GPU ???? -
There are many people with your configuration, including myself, running new drivers with no problems. Just look around the forum.
-
I'd consider drivers from laptopvideo2go.com to be completely safe. I have used them for a long while now and have never had an issue.
-
Just got curious... what if install drivers from nVidia directly ??
-
You cant directly install the drivers from nvidia without using the modded INF files provided by laptopvideo2go. Go to their site for instructions on how to do that. You are essentially installing the drivers from nvidia doing it that way.

Hi,
im also a bit unsure on laptop drivers and what to install...
i was thinking of installing "nVIDIA ForceWare X 169.17 for Windows Vista 32bit" from laptopvideo2go, as they seem to be the most popular on there... im really new to drivers and trying to get everything ready in a pack to install as soon as the lappy arrives. any idea on what drivers to install if these arnt suited for me? ill mainly be playing source games (CSS,DOD,HL2,TF2), COD4, UT3, Quake 4, BF2 and Jedi Knight Academy.
