Yes. There is a large following that did not like L4D2 but liked the first one.
-
I've been wondering that as well. I guess the easiest way to find out would be to log on to Steam and play.
-
Am thinking if i should buy it or not, no point if it has no players online

If you are playing with your G7600 in your signature, I'd suggest Killing Floor. Cheaper and runs much smoother as it is Unreal 2.5 Engine and gameplay is fun.
It's not the same as L4D. L4D is get from point A to point B. You technically don't have to kill a single zombie, not saying it's possible, but you don't have to as long as you get from point A to B. Killing Floor is more like survival, and you have to kill ALL the zeds as we call them, or experiments gone wrong.
Killing Floor is also class based.
Medics yes they actually can heal. Primary fire is shoot. Secondary fire on medic gun will shoot a heal dart on your teammates. Medics have extra armor and run faster than anyone else.
- On Suicidal mode and maps like Candle having a medic on your team is ESSENTIAL.
SharpShooter has discount on rifles and have 60% bonus damage on headshots. They run slow, carry very little equipment.
Support carry tons of gear, lots of guns, lots of grenades. They have bonus on shotguns.
Berserker can run faster than anyone but medic since you run faster when holding a melee weapon. A good Berserker can easily clear out lower level mobs faster than any class as their swing rate with 1 swing, 1 kill is faster than any other class. Their melee attacks can stop all mobs but Flesh Pounder.
The demolition is most annoying in my opinion. Their demolitions explode, rocking everyone's screens, so much smoke that you can't see. A good demolition is hard to find, and can be effective. 95% I've encountered I want to kick off the map
Killing Floor does come with a vs Mode mod. Soldiers vs Zeds mode Player vs Player. And comes with a mod called Defense Alliance 2, which is sort of futuristic. Any patches and updates for Killing Floor from Tripwire will be free, you don't need to pay extra. The DL content you pay for are small things like extra character skins.
Also I've seen Steam have Killing Floor on sale for $4.99. -
I have yet to touch that game ever since L4D2 came out but I am awaiting for the new DLC where they have the first game and the second game interact with one another. So I say if have not bought it yet wait until that DLC comes out because most likely there is going to be a sale for the first game.

OK, i overclocked my 7600go so i can max out F.E.A.R and except AA with average 50 FPS and BF2 on 64 player server maxed with average 70ish FPS.
Would i still noet be able to play left 4 dead well? It does not look like it need that good specs.
I will however test killing floor since it sounds cool -
On my Go7700 it was playable. But wouldn't say it was awesome. You need to turn down a lot of the effects if you want good resolution. L4D1 that is. Killing Floor ran great.

It was 18 Euro on steam now thats like 22 bucks, are there many players online?
-
L4D 1 is so much more fun than 2
-
I disagree, but the characters are much better in the first one.
-
I still play L4D1 No real point getting 2, the Censorship in Australia makes it a game to be played by 8 year olds
-
Loads of people i play L4D2 with always go back for some l4d.... but not often. I'd say just go for L4D2.... they are almost the same price on steam... get a hard copy from somewhere online for cheaper, maybe ebay or amazon. it plays on my crappy HD2400 so i don't see why you couldnt play it
-
I just got L4D for Christmas, don't play that much, and only play with friends. I'm sure we'll upgrade to 2 at some point, but not until it gets cheaper. We have enough fun with 1 for now.

Back when I played, I scored an astounding 1000+ hours of gameplay scored on Left 4 Dead 1, it was really that much fun.
I stopped playing for a while until that Left 4 Dead 2 came out, I consider Left 4 Dead 2 to be even better than Left 4 Dead 1, but that does not make Left 4 Dead 1 a bad game.
I was fed up of Left 4 Dead 1 mainly because of the glitches, the unfair gameplay in Versus (Camping, mostly, there is no fun if you cannot even hit the Survivors while in a Corner as an Infected) and the lack of new content, also, I had played through all that there was to see in the game and was labeled too "unfair" to play with on Versus matches.
There are still a lot of people playing Left 4 Dead 1, that is for sure, but the Left 4 Dead 2 population is getting bigger, let's not forget, though, it was announced by VALVe that they would release more content for Left 4 Dead 1 later on, even though their focus is set on Left 4 Dead 2.
Left 4 Dead 1 is a great game that you can squeeze a lot of fun from, but Versus Mode can indeed get annoying to play unless rules are set-up in a game beforehand, and everyone in the match agrees to follow them, which does not usually happen, even when playing with people that you know. -
Another vote for Killing Floor here. Played L4D 1 and loved it, played L4D2 and was equally happy. But I played so much I knew where most everything would spawn from (weapons, mobs, etc.).
I got a copy of Killing Floor and it has kinda overshadowed the other two. Love having a class, favorite being medic!
Built in maps are good, noticing quite a few new maps being added to various servers by users. If I remember right it was onsale for like $9.95 at the time so if you can catch a sale jump on it!
Looking forward to new content for the Left 4 Dead series though (as long as its free that is).
So basically I can't see anyone going wrong with either of the three mentioned. -
Killing Floor is superior.
DO people still play Left for Dead 1?
