I know I am! Anyone on the forums in the beta itself or watching streams?
Really excited for this game, getting tired of heroes of newerth.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
like Valve.
don't like Dota.
=/ -
What's DOTA?
-
Yea! Looking forward to it! Watched the first ever "International" tournament and got pretty excited. The game looks good and it seems that it has undergone a nice and smooth transition. It looks like the game hasn't wandered far from the core design, which is ok IMO.
Blizzard have also announced their version of DOTA at Blizzcon. -

WHAT IS DOTA - YouTube -
Me. Valve > S2 any day.
-
DOTA 2 still looks really buggy. Attack/spell animations really need to be fixed.
Graphics look AMAZING for the source engine. Check it being played right now:

Played since... since... ever, I gave up in 2009.
Now I need a beta key -
I am getting this game as soon as it comes out. didn't get a beta key though.
-
I am a big HoN fan despite their weekness in balance issues.
I'll be picking up Dota 2 the day it comes out but I'll still be playing HoN too.
Graphics wise, I prefer HoN because dota 2 has a cartoonish look of LoL in my opinion.
No offense to LoL, I'm sure the game has unique features rather than a direct copy of dota like HoN is but it's not for me. -
Dota 2 didn't look that cartoonish to me. I'm liking the black background scenery. I play LoL because it was free and a lot more people around me played it.
Any chance of Dota 2 going f2p? I can't really see it being attractive enough to play outside of the moba crowd. -
I'm in the beta. The community so far (the people who are in the beta) is terrible; the bulk of the people I've played with seem to be hardcore HoN or LoL junkies, who are infamous for being somewhat... unpleasant to interact with. There are also a few random people who got invited literally at random, and a few who have won contests for keys at websites and such. Problem is that with the majority of the current community being hardcore ragers, they don't tolerate newbies and it makes the game very hard to get into.
Game itself plays fine, has valve quality behind it (their 'beta' client could easily go production in 2 weeks if it were any other company). It looks like it could be pretty fun if it weren't for the people who currently play it. That's my major concern right now and I am pretty sure valve is also aware of this; they need to be aware that when the game is released, a very large portion of the people playing HoN or LoL will hop ship and very likely bring their bad attitudes with them.
@poki, it could go F2P and follow their TF2 model (BUY HATS). I'll ask around and see if they've come up with a plan for that yet? I agree that because of the game type it could be a hard sell to people unfamiliar with dota, but if it follows the TF2 model it could be very popular. -
Not everyone from HoN and LoL are people like that but yeah, most of them are.
Whenever I find nice people, even if they play bad, I add them to my friend list and play with them so that I don't end up with ragers in my team.
Even then, the other team almost always has sore winners or trolling people.
The best we can do is make a clan and just play clan games. -
Damn moba trolls... Troll with the game, not with the chat.
Man, i could use some LoL, but alas, my father falcon punched my beautiful 24 inch screen. :'( -
Ask ValveFrog for some keys for notebookreview (he already did this to a lot of forums/sites) :U -
Hon and Lol "bad attitudes"? Did you never play DoTA? It comes with the territory.
Yes I will be very thrilled when it comes out, hoping for a beta key soon. Tired of supporting S2, extremely dislike the way they handle things. Too bad because savage1/2 were great. -
People in Dota have bad attitudes towards their less performing peers for sure. Starting out is going to be a painful process and you will get insulted left and right. Even when you get moderately good you will still find s so you just learn to deal with it haha. Me I've been playing for almost 5 years, so I have a bit of experience under my belt
-
As for starting out... I never really played dota/clones so I really had no idea what I was doing when I started the client up. Valve added bots a couple weeks back so that made it really easy to start learning the map layout, hero skills etc at your own pace (you can turn bots off too and just have creeps spawning, pretty lonely though and not great for learning). After a couple hours in bot practice (remember, pretty much 0 prior dota experience) I hopped into matchmaking and played as dazzle (somehow got 5 kills??) and we steamrolled the other team, it was pretty fun. Then the next game, the opposite happened and I got to see the bad side of dota players... one started griefing our team by 'feeding' because since the other team got first blood he deemed the game lost, another started flooding chat, and another simply quit the game. And to make it worse, like Thatoe said, the other team was full of sore winners who seemed to enjoy trying to further provoke the guy who was griefing our team.
Valve is supposed to be adding in some kind of punishment system for leaving games, but I think they might have to go further and add a vote/kick system, with the ability to bring in another player (think along the lines of L4D, where you can choose to join a lobby or a game in progress). That would probably help a lot with griefers and idiots. With their existing matchmaking system it shouldn't be much of a problem where people kick low level or new players, because new players will rarely get paired with experienced players, instead they get paired with people closest to their level/xp/win-loss ratio/games played.
@inyue, I know certain people -
Wow, I've only seen the screenshots of the game before.
I just watched some replays from the tournament.
I take back what I said.
The graphics look fantastic! -
I don't like MOBAs, this is reinforced by my roommate who keeps talking to his bros on Skype about LoL tournies and strategies...ALL THE TIME. Ugh.
For example, right now he's doing it. -
But then, I'm like that with anything. I think people who obsess over sports teams are bit pathetic.
Disclaimer: Please notice I'm using the word "obsess." -
I'm pretty excited for it. I hope Valve takes some ideas from HoN and adds a reconnect and leaver protection system.
-
There is already a reconnection system, you have up to 5 minutes to reconnect to a game if you dc/crash/whatever. Like I said, last I heard they are already working on some kind of system to stop people from abandoning games.
I just frapsd a match (incidentally one of our team had major trouble staying connected, but he's still there in the end)... is there any interest in seeing it to gauge graphics? Unfortunately I couldn't record it at 1080p because fraps was still set to "half-size" from when I was doing BC2 recording... I guess I could try and record again but finding a match takes some time :s -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
There is going to be an Open Beta!
-
/sarcasm
Of course there's going to be one.
I really wish I was in the beta right now. My DOTA career started off with the original RoC Eul's DOTA, and then I went to Allstars. Been playing for 7-8 years (damn how quickly time flies!).
I have to agree with you on the griefing/raging, since I do the same thing in my games if my teammates dont know what they're doing (I play at a high tier though, so they should know what to do). From what I've seen, the majority of players are ex-DOTA players, which includes some of the high tier teams that switched over, and the rest HoN and LoL players (then a small % of people who haven't played any of them).
I'm extremely curious as to how you got your key Hakira. Mind pming me? I'm pretty sure it'll follow F2P. Look how popular LoL is compared to HoN (and HoN just went F2P recently, after forcing people to pay $30 for a copy). -
Bumping this up! We need more DOTA 2 discussion !
-
I got my beta key today. o_o
-
Second wave was sent yesterday.
Also, the price of the beta on the blackmarket decreased a lot, now you can find for +-$50 :U
I... MUST... RESIST...
Edit: Also, looks like the extra invites for pre-survey beta testers have gone out. -
They are going for about $50 a pop right now as said.
Not worth it. I really think Valve is just increasing server capacity, as last week there were ~500 players, and this week there's ~1000 players. -
Yeah Share some of those love on PM, would love to play T_T
-
I dont think i ll leave league of legends but who knows.
Maybe dota and hon have better graphics but LoL just feels "comfy" and "right" to me xD -
-
-
I want a beta key....T_T
I've been playing DotA since 2004. -
-
Ohh so Beta invites were already sent out.. Been checking my email regularly for both Dota 2 and Diablo 3 Beta but no good news!
Well Dota is best played if you have friends with you playing together which makes the game a lot fun. -
im not anymore. just going to wait for actual release.
-
It is really fun if you play with friends.
I currently am horrible at playing Dota2, my nVidia drivers don't mix well with it so I crash often, so I have to play on my crappy integrated card.
I think League of Legends is easier tan Dota2. :[ -
Third wave out...
Playdota official forum now giving 40 keys per day...
And nothing for me
This is why I don't like LOL ("anti-fun" mechanism, lol) and this is why LOL can coexist along with Dota 2...
But the HON... GG for him. -
OMG my friend got the email! He gave me an extra key! Now Downloading!
-
-
Baka wants a key too but all Baka can do is wait and hope
-
-
-
Ugh...they must of done a forum wipe in the past like...6 years. Don't have an account there anymore, not even a chance for me ;(. -
Sucks, 40 keys a day just for that raffle is insaneee.
-
Haha I was playing Skyrim to pass time and it minimized and I said to myself DAMN ANOTHER CRASh and was surprised by a steam update window telling me I have 2 spare copies of DOTA 2 to give, which means... I GOT INVITED!! Its at 47% right now I'm damn excited!
-
Edit: Let us know how comparable it is to DotA & HoN. Watching replays only gives you so much of the experience. -
Everyone has said the same thing though; It's very slow-paced compared to heroes of newerth, spells/attack animations are very bland. But right now this game looks amazing for being in Beta, and there haven't been a lot of issues with servers/gameplay.
HON still has a ton of bugs (when gemini was released, you could go invulnerable with him) and now I think mspudding and nome are leaving. -
Really, where did you hear they are leaving? Those were probably the two most active employees at S2 that everyone liked.
Shame on your 'buddies' for not giving you a key.
