i'm new to pc gaming so i was wondering how much dpi u need for FPS on the mouse. im thinking of getting a MX revolution from logitech but i heard that it lags at times, is this true. the mx has 800 DPI and i don't know if its enough. some have told me that its enough some have told me i need more. i know that its a good mouse but need some xpert advice. :D

Depends what type of gamer you are. Most people are content with playing with an 800 DPI mouse. My CS friend who has no life insists on sniping with a 2000 DPI mouse.

Ha, who am I kidding. I don't have any friends.

Just buy an MX518. It's been out for years and it's still a fantastic mouse.

If you don't care for on the fly DPI adjustments and want more mappable buttons, find an MX510 on eBay.

I read a article a few months ago, regarding how pointless razor 4000 DPI is. for 15"/17" screen, users always had to lower down their DPI becuase of the sensitivity. and the article also pointed out that most gamers use 800-100dpi during competitions. 4000DPI are more likely for a 30"+ screen

Here's a post I found on another forum:
Take it for what you will... I use the Windows default sensitivity (Square in the middle) and I don't even know what DPI setting I use on my MX518, because it doesn't tell you what you're at. I also keep acceleration off as should any gamer.

In general Windows use I keep it at 1100 DPI. At those settings, on a 1680x1050 screen, I can go from side to side of my desktop in about an inch and a half of mouse pad space. I like a relatively high sensitivity in a desktop environment, but a very low sensitivity in games like Counter Strike. So basically with DPI and sensitivity -- Go with what's comfortable, you definitely don't *need* a mouse with any higher than 1600, since you'll rarely use it at that high anyway. The post I quoted said Windows doesn't scale it well, which I can't verify, but it sounds reasonable. And buy an MX518, since it's an awesome mouse.
