What is a decent program for copying DVD's? I'd really love to back up some of the games I own and copy a few movies so I don't have to bring the originals with me when I travel. I really don't have the hard drive space to start making images of every movie I might want to take with me but I suppose that could be a viable alternative if I can't find something that works well enough.

DVD Shrink is among the best for backing up or compressing movies. It will strip out all the extras and you can decide on the compression level. A subsidiary benefit is that it will take out the region coding.

I use a program called DVDFab Platinum. It works great! You can strip out the subtitles, certain audio formats, and the extras.

Just keep in mind that you can't backup game discs with DVD Shrink, it is for DVD movies only.

Thanks for all the suggestions but R4000 does bring up a point I hadn't thought about. Are any of these compatible with game discs?

In the past I created an image of a DVD then mounted it and copied the virtual drive to copy games but those were 1. CD's and 2. Much older games so I'm not sure if that method will work.

You should be able to do the same thing with DVD games. It just depends on the copy protection. I've found for some games I own, I install them and then have to install a crack. Others, they work just fine with an Alcohol CD image. You might also try Daemon Tools. Only problem is that it chews up disk space. I have my legal copies of Civilization 4, Prince of Persia: TWW, C&C:Generals Zero Hour, Far Cry (DVD version), all kinds of stuff running with Alcohol 120%.

I was thinking of finally throwing in the towel and investing in Alcohol. I love Daemon tools but Alcohol is just better in every way and I could never get Daemon to cooperate with BIN/CUE or MDF/MDS images.

I had Magic ISO but I'm never using it again... First of all ISO images aren't perfect copies and I've had all kinds of trouble with modern games and their security features so I end up with a copy I need to fiddle with to get it working. And none of the other outputs seem to be much different in that respect.
