Not sure if this is the right place, but...

I've been playing Overlord and FEAR with no problems, but I also have Company of Heroes and Oblivion (both DVD games) and my computer won't even acknowledge that the disc exists...

I have a HP DV2500t with a SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support drive. From everything I can see it should play everything, but apparently I am missing something.

It spins the disc, clicks a bit, spins the disc again, and repeats until it just gives up. Any help would be great.

Do other DVD discs work? Try to pop in a movie or another game to see if the drive is working correctly.

Movies don't work. Here is what I found out:

MY computer thinks this is a CD Rom drive. I uninstalled the device, let it be redetected, and it automatically reinstalls CD Rom drivers. What I've done recently is get some updates and I transferred my old computer to my new one using the Vista transfer software.

I just did a system restore, it didn't work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

fixing dvds (game and movie dvds) not being able to read is always a tricky problem.

Best you could do is, clean up your dvd-rom laser, use q-tip or soft cotton gently clean it up, give it a good wipe.

And find out what brand your dvd-rom is, you probably can find these information in Device Manager, then trace back the manufacturer, and download the firmware from their website for the dvd-rom, install it and see from there.

Well, I talked to HP and did a lot of online searching, and it seems there is a compatibility issue with iTunes or a variety of other software and this drive.

HP's only conclusion was I needed a new drive... great.

Apparently this is the only fix, in case anyone else has this issue.
