I have an 8600gt, and I am looking for some free DVD software out there so that I can watch DVD's on my laptop. For whatever reason, when I re-installed my software after putting xp on my computer, I no longer have DVD capability.

    Any suggestions (with links)?

    Thanks

I thought he meant a codec pack to play dvds via windows media player. Not a dvd program.

Out of curiosity, why do you need a codec pack to watch a DVD on your laptop if you have VLC?

maybe not for dvd's, since i never watch them. but a lot of other formats like avi, mpeg, etc. require a video codec to be installed. simply installing a program that u can use to view them, doesn't mean it's going to display the picture w/o the codec installed.

VLC includes a codec pack, I'm pretty sure.

If someone asks for a free program to watch a DVD on his laptop, why would you advise installing a codec pack for avi, mpeg, ogg etc.
VLC is a free media player that plays DVD's and avi, wmv, mpeg, ogg files.
It has the necessary codecs already for ease of use, even for people that never watch a DVD. ;)

well, i agree, i misread his post a little. but codecs are free as well, and most of them do come with free software progs as well, or u can just use the wmp already installed on ur comp.

p.s. nah, i was born in the soviet union ;)
p.p.s are u somehow affiliated with vlc and their soft, u seem to really like it :)

Ah, thank God, it's only nostalgia for the good ol' days then. ;)
For a moment I was afraid you were born in a democracy and using the right to be wrong. :D
No affiliation with VLC or what so ever, I just like the program (&the fact that it's open source and has so much codecs).

yeah, nostalgia.... :( i haven't really been able to enjoy much of it, cuz i was pretty young when the union broke up, but my parents say it used to be pretty good :)

yeah, one of my friends uses vlc and seems to be pretty happy with it. i just use media player classic - nostalgia #2! haha
