Alright so this has nothing to do with notebooks, but with my desktop and my TV.
I have this TV http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8386285&type=product&id=1181831586462 which has a ton of plugs, but no DVI. It does however had a VGA cable. I'd like to hook my PC up to it, but I don't want to move it. I wouldn't want to keep the cable hooked up all the time because the only way to do that, it would have to be like 40ft long.
Ok so my PC has 8800GTS, and I've seen some extension VGA cables up to like 30ft, I think a 15ft might do it, but that's not so important right now. See the 8800GTS has no VGA, just DVI, and I do have a VGA/DVI plug thingie, converter is the word im looking for.
I forgot my question.....right do I need a male to male cable or a male to female cable? And do you think the quality would be damaged much by the length of extention and DVI to VGA over that? And do you think maybe I should just use the component out on the 8800GTS, and get an extention for that instead?
Sorry I rambled a bit, but I'm at work and I'm trying to figure this out now, so on my way home from work I can go buy a cable heh.

I had a similar problem when I got my HDTV. I have a notebook that only gives out DVI and my HDTV had VGA, so I just went to my electronic store and got a DVI to VGA converter. It should be a male on the DVI end and a female on the VGA end, but it also depends on your vga to vga connection. As for quality wise, there is not lost to me anyways, but doing VGA instead of S-Video makes a big difference and the quality with using VGA is great!

Hmm, im curious now, I was thinking maybe it was male to male, and I just realized I posted in the wrong forum hehe. Maybe I should go home first and double check.
Glad to hear no loss in the quality, to you anyways. I'll let everyone know what some stuff looks like -
You could get a DVI to HDMI adapted. HDMI is basicly DVI+Sound+controll+higher bandwith, so a HDMI-DVI adapter just changes the plug. The signal sent through remains the same.

I ended up not going to the store after work, so I might look into those. Didn't know they sold them. Probably a lot more expensive then the other choices though. Guess i'll find out.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Edit: I just looked, and pretty much about the same price. A little more pricy per foot, but not insanely so. -
No problem. You can either get a Dvi-HDMI cable, or a DVI cable and a HDMI adapter. Which ever's cheaper.
