I had previously thought that only the 8X00 (currently) series of graphics cards would be supporting DX10, but on the alienware site:
http://www.alienware.com/product_de...-LT-AURORA-M-9700&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT#pdp-nav
they show screenshots of Crysis as well as say you can 'experience DX10'. This is under the 'learn more' for the M9700, which runs on dual 7950s. Thoughts? Or was I wrong initially?

No you are right. Only the Nvidia Geforece 8x00 series and the Ati HD 2600 and above series supports directx10. The Intel X3100 might someday get a driver update to support directx10.
The 7950 does not or any 7 series GPU does not. -
Without wanting to sound pessimistic, I'm doubtful that we'll even see driver updates for the X3100 that support hardware DX9. There are beta ones for XP, but the delay since their release suggests that there's a fundamental problem under Vista.

DX10 games will work on a DX9 card, you just miss out on some of the new features. This has always been the cases. The 7950 will handle Crysis without any problems.
