Hi I’m just wondering do many games take advantage of Dx11 and if so is it mainly performance enhancing or is it graphical detail.

I'm saying this because I just bought an m17x-r1 (£400) with qx9300 2x gtx 260m and they are dx10 cards they run games at great fps so I’m happy with the performance. But I’m thinking about getting 2 hd5870 to put into the system for the fact the fact they are DX11 as well as the performance bump.

Basically in I’m asking is DX11 worth it I will probably upgrade at some point but if my games are not going to look any better I don’t see the point as I can run nearly all my games at max with high enough fps. Also will there be any compatibility issue in the future 1-2 years.

The performance enhancing part of DX11 is achieved when building up the application (i.e. games) all with DX11. Nowadays in most games (if not all, not sure) DX11 is used as an aftertought (games are DX9 and some DX11 is added for graphical enhancement [not performance]).

So, is DX11 really relevant? Not now, and will not be until the next generation of consoles using a higher DX library (11.5?, 12?).

I am not sure what you mean by compatibility issues.

The real decision factor will be when the next gen of consoles (XBox 720?, PS4?) will be released. This applies as well as to compatibility.

most likely not. however, if you're looking for a graphics card, you should get one that supports DX11 anyway. Why? All the good price/performance ratio choices happen to be DX11 at this point.

Developers are afraid to enforce the Dx11 with fallback to Dx10 on the games they make, since some users are still stuck on XP. >_>
(No offence, XP was good but its kinda old now)

Go for the performance bump, don't worry about the DX level you are currently at.
