I'm sorry guys. I really am. I frikkin hate EA Origin, but they left me with no choice. The pre-order for BF3 was already the most attractive on Origin (Beta Access). But then they tossed in free Dead Space 2, so I bit.
For all others without the willpower to stick to their convictions: Free Mass Effect 2, Medal of Honor, or Dead Space 2 with BF3 pre-order on Origin
Expires August 7
May God have mercy on our souls...

That's only for the BF3 Alpha players though.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Medal of Honor: Pass
Dead Space 2: Pass
Mass Effect 2: Own Collector's Edition on DVD with a fancy Tin Case sooo... Pass...
BF3 so far? Not convincing me enough to get for the moment.
So I am not fazed...
-
Star Forge is hard to please
-
That didn't stop me from ordering it. It's been working for everyone who tries it.
-
What if I already own those games? Can I gift or sell them to someone else?
-
wow really!!! i just pre ordered it yesterday. oh well i already had medal of honor, and im content playing bc2 until the "early september beta".
edit: gift them to me! -
I canceled my previous pre-order, and was able to preorder again and get ME2 for free since I already own DS2 and MOH. EA rep told me that it wouldn't work, and that I had to receive some special email to get access. Well I got him to cancel my first order and it worked just fine. Downloaded ME2, why not get all the same stuff I had previously, and a free game for the same price?
-
If I can't gift or sell those copies of other games, then I still have no incentive to buy the game early. None. I was hoping they'd have a cool collector's boxed edition with nighttime goggles, model of a tank, DVD's on modern warfare, etc. Something.
-
Hmm lemme think...
Nope, I don't even have to consider Origin. Always no. -
went ahead and preordered, i chose ME2!
-
Seems the US branch of EA Origin be desperate.
Checked my Origin store and none of the games are mentioned as preorder bonuses. -

So I am assuming that you are saying that you are not getting BF3?
-
Only for US it seems (as ALL other Origin discounts, promotions, etc). They keep thinking South America is part of Europe. I'll stay with Steam. Origin must make a slogan: "Origin U.S.A.; are there other markets?"
-
It is coming to Steam, just without any pre-order bonuses and possibly a late launch.
It will be the same as Alice, no news, then on release day it just pops up.
Either way, not buying it till it hits <$10. -
US Origin store did not get the Easter sale or the FPS sale, slashing prices like insane.
I own a lot of games on Origin already so i aint mad.
I do understand that being in South America and getting forced to pay with euros would be bad though.
No excuse there. -
so i did a help chat with one of the origin sales people, and they gave me a code so i could get mass effect 2 for free, because i had pre-ordered bf3 and participated in the alpha before the deal was available.
-
We didn't get almost ANY sale, don't even european as I see. The FPS sale is not available here too. So, South America is not a market for them. Thanks Origin! Thanks EA!. Every day you make me love Steam more and more.
-
What's origin?
[goes back to using Steam]
-
why don't you just download stuff through a proxy?
-
All of you guys waiting for Origins keep on dreaming:
Battlefield 3 won't be sold on Steam; EA claims service 'restricts our ability to directly support players' | Joystiq
I am really tempted to get the pre order but I really don't want to use origin. Here's hoping it comes out on Amazon! Also, amazon usually have discount their digital download games even if it was just release. -
Its not that I hate Origin, I just don't want more and more 3rd party programs for games. I like my computer "clean". T_T
I also like to keep all my games organized in one place (Steam atm). -
i already got 7 games on origin, so another one couldn't be that bad.
Besides, i will get to play the early beta on September
.
Besides, i used a 20% percent off coupon
.
Besides, it came with mass effect 2.
Besides, even if steam releases the game 3 months late it will not be limited edition with the first expatiation pack.
What else can i ask, its a really good deal.
I still got a 20% percent off coupon, so if any on wants it pm me
.

I dont really have a problem with Origin, i think its a fine service. What i have a problem with is that the US gets deals all the time, while us people in EU are left empty handed D: : /

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I just get EA games on DVD now like I always have been for 90% of EA products. I don't always need to get every game on digital distribution but I just don't like the feel of Origin though and it stops me from getting anything on it. As long as the physical copy doesn't force me to use Origin to play, I will be content using optical media as a way to playing BF3 (if I get convinced enough to get it). -
I don't think using origin to buy the game is that bad. I mean even after you buy it, you can just add the game to your steam game library as a shortcut and run it straight off of steam.
Anyways I'll be going for Origin as I will be getting the origin activation code for the game for about 50% off on release day.
If anyone wants, I'll be selling it on here on NBR as well. Just had it approved by the mods.
-
I might do just that since I work retail and I can get a discount if I buy the physical copy. Also, I bet trying to download it on launch day might be a hassle since everyone is going to be downloading it.
So I caved in and damn I went and bought it off of origins. I wanted dead space 2, but I hate how I am charge with taxes for buying online and now I have to download and install origins on my pc. I better not regret this! -
I just canceled my preorder and reordered with MoH. Thanks for the thread!

good to know
IF ANY ONE WANTS A 20% off coupon for ea origin(WORKS ON BATTLEFIELD 3) let me know, i have 2 coupons laying around.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
How does origin actually work? Is it like steam, constantly running in the background while you are doing other tasks, or is it just a downloader? I would rather now have 2 game management programs running on my computer at the same time, but I really do not want to go back to the hassle of using discs (and not getting BF3 is obviously not an option). I do wish EA had picked some other game to fight steam on; they really need every customer they can get if they want BF3 to beat COD.

With Origin you can use it either like Steam or just as a downloader it does not have to be running for you to play a game that is in your Origin Library.
-
Good to know that I don't have to let origin run while im on bf3. Also, I just read their faq:
Q: Will my game download ever expire?
A: Digital download rights remain available for at least one year after purchase. Origin typically doesnt retire games, and weve only retired around 10 of the 150 games we sell, and these have generally been because of the expiration of licensing rights. If you come across an issue, simply contact Origin Help and we'll reconfigure things for you.
So does that mean if I do not download the games I bought after a year I cannot get them anymore? -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Not sure, I think what they are saying is that sometimes games get deleted from the Origin library, but if that happens they will compensate you somehow or add it again or something.

I had to install Origin to download my free copy of ME2 (came with DA2).
I was pleasantly surprised to see
1. Origin is not a resource hog
2. you can easily stop all the Origin processes by exiting the program
3. download speed is reasonable (slower than highest Steam DL speeds, but faster than Steam's slowest DL speeds)
If I have a choice, I will go with Steam, as it's a bit more convenient to keep all games in one library, but I have absolutely no problem with buying something via Origin if it's cheaper or not available on Steam.
Competition is a good thing for consumers -
This would be true if EA allowed their games to be sold on steam and didn't have Origin exclusives like Star Wars and ME3.
-
Shortcuts are not the same.
It's not +1 to games list.
It shows "In Non-Steam Game"
It doesn't track # of hours played.
It's just not on Steam. -
I don't have anything in particular against Origin. I just don't want yet another DL service/game manager on my system, with my CC info.
I prefer the convenience of having everything on Steam, from being able to redownload all in a single service, to manage everything etc. I was getting tired of using several services. -
Added +1's to my game list are not my main priority, it's actually playing the game that I enjoy. Steams hour tracking system is busted. As long as I have the overlay, I'm good to go.
-
BF3 on Origin costs 30% more than the retail version -> PASS.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
That is just simply not true they are the same price.
Battlefield 3 Limited Edition for PC | GameStop
It is not $77.99 on Origin

Anyone know how I can move Origin games from my primary HD to my storage HD?
-
yeah you need to change the settings on where the games are stored in origin.
look in the attached photo
edit: yes my name is babypeepeeAttached Files:
-
-
Yea but is there a way to have some of my games on my SSD and some on my HDD? Just wondering of you can do it the same way you can with steam mover for steam.
-
look up how to do a symbolic link, and then use one of those.
-
It means, like with many other music services, that there will be a time when you won't be able to download it anymore. So far they guarantee 1 year of availability. But being fair, I guess that clause is there just to retire games that become a flop in no time. Nevertheless, I don't like that policy.

skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
I have been a member in good standng with Steam for a while now. I have managed to purchase a good number of titles on Steam's client.
The problem with Steam is that customer service is almost absent. I have friends with multi-gpu setups that could not get Crysis 2 to work properly for months because of a lack of in-game SLI/CF programming, that was recently resolved with an update. All those months they tried to get some form of compensation from Steam/Valve for a game they could not play, unless they disabled SLI/CF...lame. Steam said that they would NOT offer a refund or a credit of any kind.
I called EA over the same problem and was given Medal of Honor, Dark Spore and a 50% off coupon code...that I will apply to Battlefield 3 through Origin. How's that for Customer Service?!?!
Origin also has some really good deals on a lot of their titles.
In the end, I welcome both clients. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Glad to see that you are happy with the resolution! -
skygunner27 A Genuine Child of Zion
Yup origin is sick!!!! And the service loads instanlty.
Online is also lag free. -
So to put it in simple terms: you (or your friends) got mad because the distributor (not developer) could not fix a problem? Did I get it right? If you've bought it from Wal-mart, would you've asked for compensation to them?
Damn You Origin
