Good thing or bad thing? Obviously a console port...

If it's a good port, then good thing. If it's a bad console port, just ignore it it'll still sell by popularity ._.
-
This game is gonna require some serious GPU power methinks.
Can't wait tho, that's awesome. -
I'm still trying to get over how great Alan Wake's PC port looks maxed out on my 51 inch Plasma.
They did a great job with that, if they can do the same with Dark Souls, there will be much to be enjoyed. -
According to Bandai, Dark Soul is not a 100% console game much like Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 4 (programming wise). Either way, I will support Bandai for releasing Dark Soul with some perks base on a 92k petition.
-
If it is like most bad console ports it will require a minimum Quad core CPU, the GPU isn't nearly as important to console ports, especially poorly ported ones.
-
Yes! I've been hoping for this announcement for quite some time. I've held off playing it on console so I'm hoping they do a good job porting it.
Thanks to anyone that signed the petition. It has more than paid off. -
I am looking forward to this game. But they say its a hard game to beat.
-
I probably can't run it
Can't even run alan wake on all lowest at 1080p. I get like 14-20 fps which is barely playable for that game.
But awesome. I'll probably get it if I ever build a desktop. -
FINALLY!! yupp I was checking the news once a week to see this, finally happening
-
The first game made me throw my controller, multiple times.
-
I have played Dark Souls on PS3 (the art cover is even in my avatar
) and it's one of my favorite games ever. I actually never finished the game though due to me focusing more on online PVP then the core game. Quit playing due to not doing well in PVP
The only bad thing I've encounted with Demon Souls and Dark Souls is the fact that PVP can be very unbalanced. It's based more on time and planning into making your character strong fast compared to actually skill. -
It is a good game but I have no reflex(almost negative) zzz.
-
Here is a good intro to Dark souls. I like this guy

I don't own a console, and I've been very much looking forward to this one.
However, I just read an article which suggests the game will be limited to the console resolution, which is 1280x720.
How is that even possible? I've never heard of any game being released on PC within the past 10 years or so limited to 720p.
Certainly hope it's an unfounded rumor or some sort of typo, but the translation from the Japanese seems correct.
Here is the Japanese version of the Famitsu interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201204/18013184.html
Maybe he was talking about the texture resolution and not the display resolution? (I hope) -
lol, yeah it looks terrible in 720p on a 40" screen..................
-
I dont hope they will blame low sales on piracy this time, since both GFWL & limited graphical settings tend to be a big turndown for PC games.
-
Actually the resolution meant texture / asset resolutions, not game resolution. However the 30 fps cap is still in.

You are certain that "解像度" ("kaizoudo") definitely means only "texture resolution" and not the resolution of the game?
I looked up the word in a Japanese dictionary and here are the meanings:
EDIT: DSO gaming has published an update, where they are confirming it was the texture resolution

OK now I'm even more confused about the Dark Souls resolution issue:
Dark Souls PC Preview: The Devil's Bargain • Previews • PC • Eurogamer.net
What the heck does this mean? The game is always rendered at 1024x720? -
Dark Souls was definitely not optimized for the consoles originally. Just look at the controls. I can only imagine that a mouse/keyboard will be able to handle the game much better. I've been waiting for this a long time, and for $40 decided the pre-order was worth it.
-
Oh crap... Yet another crappy console port to be!
-
I'll wait for a review or two before sinking any money into this. I loved Demon Souls, and played some Dark Souls at a friends and loved that as well, so this is a no brainer if it is done properly. I really can' wait! Not enough games like this out there!
-
God damn it.
... back to my Xbox joystick then haha
-

Yep, forcing everyone to use 1024x720 resolution is pretty ridiculous. I think that's even lower res than the Xbox version. What were they thinking?
I guess that's one title I'm removing from my Steam wishlist. -
...I did not know this. That's what happens when you read the first few posts of a thread and then skip the rest of the impressions. How inexcusable of the developers. Definitely not getting this on PC anymore. Honestly, what goes through people's heads when they make crackpot decisions like this? -
Not a reason to not play it if you ask me. Fantastic game. I imported demon's souls for ps3, also bought dark souls for ps3. Not sure why they made that technical decision, i am sure there is a reason, but the game is good which is what counts.
I'd wait for reviews if you're skeptical. -
Eh? I played both on ps3, controls were fine. Just like any game it takes 10-15 minutes to get used to the mapping.
-
Really? I felt they were pretty clumsy and the button combinations were somewhat awkward, at least on the Xbox (pretty similar controller to a PS3 if I am remembering correctly).
-
No, the PC port will use the same internal resolution as the consoles. Maintaining 30 fps really shouldn't be an issue then, huh? Quite a few games have actual render resolution separated from the resolution of the window (usually native desktop resolution) and just upscale. Games I've played in the last week that do that are Lost Planet 2 and King Arthur II (and this one's a PC exclusive). Luckily both of them allow you to change the render resolution.
-
very nice game but the graphic without the MOD looks terrible
this pic taken with mod used -
these look ok, but where are the shadows? also this looks like it is much more than 1024x768, what's your resolution? Also what mod is this? (Considering on buying this, but until I confirm the graphics are at least ok)
-
Anyone else struggling without a Gamepad? This is horrible to play, for me, with M/K combo.
-
yes with this mod is out you can set any resolution your wish!
and here is the mod
Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix) - NeoGAF
yea not playable with keyboard and mouse i use my wired xbox360 controller ... -
I am sorry, but this is horrible.... stop these ports please -.-''
I mean Darksiders did it well, and they surely used a hell of a lot of time to make everything look good once they ported it! -
Would you recommend this game to someone who liked Skyrim but did not like Oblivion (too repetitive, imo)?
Sent from my Tricorder using Tapatalk -
At the moment the DSfix mod doesn't work with Optimus laptops, I tried selecting NVIDIA GPU for both darksouls.exe and data.exe and it's still using the iGPU. Without the mod it'll use the dGPU if you assign it correctly. So right now I'm running the game on my old G73JW at 1080p.

Is that with the G73JH? Did you get sudden slow down at certain places? Sometimes the FPS would drop down to 15FPS on my G73JW, but most time it sits at solid 30FPS.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015

Wow! The game looks awesome... Am very tempted now!!
-
Its hardest game i've ever played on PC no doubt..
-
hackness, don't forget it's a port, some things tend to weird up at certain places.
Either that or you forgot to use throttlestop
-
gpu utilization never goes past 25%, anyone with 7970m trying this? Also I have lag spikes all the time, awful
(very common apparently)
-
Yeah. There's a bug with the mod and game where it locks at 15FPS if your framerate even fluctuates a tiny bit. It mostly affects AMD and mobile users.
-
btw, this mod is coming together with steam download.
-
ThrottleStop is always running on mine, however with this mod on the P150EM no matter what you set in the NVIDIA panel it's always using the iGPU to render. So I'm running it on my G73JW now as it's only got dGPU. Although on the GTX460M the highest GPU usage was 84% at 1080P, when fighting Careless Discharge the FPS dips into 15FPS so often, got me killed a dozen times.
-
I've noticed the mod not working for 680M and Optimus either, which is slightly disappointing. I am playing double handing the keyboard. It's not that bad, especially when the framerate is stable.
-
On the P150EM with DSfix04 mod I had like 7 FPS when 3 Curse frogs used their curse move lol, iGPU's rendering is so dead at important moments.
-
I wanted to see what you were talking about, but it seems this drop in FPS is relevant to the game itself, not just the port, look at that:
Dark Souls: Ceaseless Discharge Easy Guide - YouTube (from minute 1:30)
The whole execution of this game looks so hamfisted... Hardly my cup of tea.
Dragon's Dogma, though - that looks like a game I'd like to be ported to the PC. -
Yea it was like that, but the lag is massive in 1080p mode when your camera is close to the fire from Careless Discharge.
