I just bought Dark Souls from the Steam sale a couple days ago and haven't been able to actually play. I can create a character and watch the opening cinematic, but after that it gets stuck on the loading screen where it cycles through items and their descriptions. It isn't frozen because I can still bring up the Windows Live menu, but it never moves on from loading.

I'm using the latest version of DSFix, all my drivers are up to date and I have no clue what to do.

Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

    Setup:
    Sager NP9170
    i7 3610QM
    8 GB RAM
AMD 7970M with 12.11 catalyst driver
    Windows 8 Pro 64bit

What settings inside the DSfix did you change?

Edit: Unlock FPS will cause games for windows live to take longer time to log your account in but it should still log you in, just this is under windows 7. Not sure if it's because you are on windows 8, might want to try launching the game without DSfix and see if it gets through.

I only changed AA and fullscreen mode in DSFix and turned off AA in-game and put it in windowed mode in-game.
Another thing is I tried to verify the integrity of the game cache and it said 14 files couldn't be verified, you think this could be part of the problem?
And I've been able to log in with my WL account in the game just fine it's just I can't actually get past loading.

Try removing the DSfix and see if it gets past the loading screen. I just checked the integrity of mine and only 1 file failed and was reacquired, were those 14 of yours reaquired after checking as well?

If you're still having problems, I'll try downloading it and seeing if I have any problems running in on Windows 7. You're using 12.11 beta11, correct?

Yep that's the one. If it is a problem with Windows 8, am I just out of luck?

And the 14 files were reacquired but this did not change anything for getting past the loading screen.
