Bought the game, very impressed with it so far!
The gameplay is great, real step up from the original game.
I run the graphics almost full on my g50vt-a1, and it looks stunning!
Just making this thread to see how it runs on your system and its performance on certain machines.

Ok great ill be waiting

Theres two to start with. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
That looks starcraft like
It also looks pretty intense. -
My best advice is to install 182.06
1680x1050 Ultra settings with my card @ 610/1525/950, I was getting 22 frames with 179.48. With 182.06, it jumped to 36!
The campaign is so great. I'm playing on Primarch difficulty, and it's really brutal, but I love the skill that it takes to make it through the battles.
Awesome game overall.
Add Kevin_Jack2.0 in Steam and kevinj444 in Live if you want to play sometime. I'm an easy mark.
EDIT: I'll post some screens in a little bit. -
Its very starcraft like, and also is extremely intense!
Im on 185.20 atm getting 40ish fps on high, guess ill up it to ultra!
Ill add you on live and we can have a few games sometime. Hope the ranks from beta were carried over...
The skills it takes are huge plus to this game; i tested it out: ran into a swarm blindly and got inihilated straight away, applied tactics and came out unscathed!
I'm playin Primarch too, played on seargant but that was too easy so i started a new one and upped the difficulty -
i played it on a system with a gforce 9300m G and i was able to play it on medium. I played mostly in beta though hosting my own game against the computer. so not sure how it would do with many people playing.
i like the game its alright. alot of micro managing. very little building. mostly just work with your units it seems. i do intend to pick up the game but im curious to try the original as well wich plays totally different. there is alot more building involved in the original. the first version and the second version are not made by the same programmers and you can tell right off. they actually admitted this in an interview somewhere that they had a different team working on the second version then the first as well. so i guess that explains why they are so different -
I think relic were just looking for a different approach on RTS, and somehow made an RTS/RPG crossbreed. It was described as "Diablo with squads" on Eurogamer, which I think accurately sums up the game. You can tell its been vigorously planned and extremely well made in all aspects, except after the first 12 or so missions you master the tactics needed to win any mission.
I reckon its a must have for all RTS/RPG gamers out there, im really enjoying it so far, great storyline, full destructible environment and great graphics make this a really good game to buy! -
the beta was great! they seemed to have optimized a bit too, it runs alot smoother from the beta. a quad core really helps by the way, this is one of the few games that really takes advantage of those extra cores.
-
How would it run with an 8600m GT 256mb, 4GB of Ram, and an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz?

Seems like i'll have to ditch my dual core sooner than i expected :/

So, gameplay-wise, I'm curious. I hear that there's no real single player element, or at least no real strategy. It's all multliplayer. If that's the case I'm not that interested. I like quick PC skirmishes, and get online when I have the time to get into a real meaty match.
It absolutely looks gorgeous though! -
Theres a lot of micromanaging involved, and there is definitely strategy involved otherwise you cannot win a skirmish with the enemy. Its very hard to win if you just throw everybody in straight away!
You have to equipt and deploy the squads that best suit the job in hand, which is pretty vital in the campaign.
I just got the dreadnought, which is pretty much invinsible with the right wargear!
I would certainly get this game, it certainly takes a lot of strategy on primarch difficulty. -
Well for a performance reference, I am on a t9300 8800mgts, 3gb, vista 64 on the 182.05 Dox drivers, and on the Ultra Settings @1400x900 I average 30-35fps...pretty consistent fps too, no real spikes or fluctuations...which for an RTS is more then acceptable imho.
-
RTS dont often require many FPS for it to be stable; this is no exception, I'm playing ultra settings 1680x1050 and getting 25-30 FPS, which is real smooth.
-
Dawn of War is a complete rip off starcraft. Even so, graphics are pretty good and gameplay is fun.
Eldar = Protoss
Tyranids = Zerg
Humans = Terran
Similarities dont stop there.
Gameplay is very different though. Its more about micro than overall base building and attacking. -
The 4 races involved in DOW II were invented back in the late 80's, so its more likely the orginal starcraft was developed from the original Warhammer models.
I do see some similarities, but the game is completely different. -
Anyways, I really enjoyed the beta and am now enjoying the full game. On my laptop it runs very well on a mixture of medium to high settings (aiming for 30fps average). As it runs on the same engine as the Company of Heroes games there are some fairly good guides out there already on how to get the best out of it. -
Starcraft was created that long ago?! God, I feel old...
Glad to hear its running well on your system, as I said before, its vigorously well made!
How does it look on those settings? -
-
ROFL Yeah and Dune 2 is a complete rip off Fallout 3
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
is it true that races are like starcraft?

WH 40k has existed longer than Starcraft. You want to know which games are WH40k ripoff. Well here is two, Starcraft and Gears of War. Yes you heard me, Cliffy definitely looked at the Space Marines when he designed this game. Gears of War is awesome but oozes of WH40k atmoshpere.
-
The enemies represent xenos that must be purged in Emperors name and all that! Yeah, Cliffy resembles an Astartes in stature definitely.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
Why does it matter who ripped off who? I enjoy statecraft and dow series. Does anyone have some performance tips for dow2?
-
the basic idea of rts is to have multiple f_cktitious groups of pixel with different strength / weakness parametric settings, label them with something attractive, made up a interesting storyline, sholve them down the throat of the gaming zombies, and let them argue on message board all over the internet ...
... or, just enjoy the game. -

Does anyone know how to force settings by means of manipulating the config. file?

Tenspeed, my hand slipped, and I accidentally denied your friend request. All I saw was Tenspeed, but I sent a request back to Tenspeed33.
-
No worries, i'll add you when I play it again!
-
Anyone else with a 3470 getting terrible performance? I have it barely playable at 1024x768 with everything on the off/low setting. I find this odd since I am able to play CoH with mostly higher settings and both games are based on the same engine. It may be a driver issue...but Lenovo doesn't update video drivers often and switchable graphics won't work if I use stock ATi drivers.
-
Just got the game....I really like the customization of the squads and equipment.
It doesnt play like I was expecting....I kind of miss building the bases.
and what happened to CHAOS!!!! -
It's been stated that other races will be added with further expansion packs. It's all a waiting game until your favourite faction becomes available if it already isn't. I believe Chaos is the very next one in line though, if taken from hints in interviews with the developers.
-
Yeah the Design Lead said Chaos is his favorite faction, and he wants to make sure the race gets the proper treatment with an expansion dedicated 100% to Chaos.
Speculation is that there will be one commander dedicated to each Chaos god (Khrorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, Slaanesh), while each existing race will have a new commander added to the roster.
Here's a performance tip: Terrain Detail to Low will gain you like 5 frames per second and it's hard to tell the difference. -
Relic stated that DLC would be available within weeks of release if all goes to plan. I really hope all goes to plan!
Chaos would be cool, berzerker squads will own more than assault marines.
The imperial guard should have a Titan as one of their units... In the Horus Heresy they play a key part in taking some planets. That would be so sweet having a titan... -
I am having heaps of trouble with my 3470 too, but I am on a desk top. I also can play other games like COH and world in conflict fine but my GPU constanly crashes and has crap frame rates. I have updated to latest drivers (which come up as hd 3400 series not 3470 specificly) and it doesnt help. Let me know if you have any ideas on fixing it
Thanks -
It is possible that the 3470 just isn't strong enough for this game engine.
-
how would a P7350 2Ghz 9600m GT do on dawn of war 2 at 1280x800? i can "cheap" max out crysis with 26fps
-
You'd be fine on medium presets.
-
can the MSI GT725 rak it up to max settings with 1680x1050 res, or higher res?
