Does anyone still play Dawn of War? I play Winter Assault, but since Dark Crusade came out, there's never more then between 12 and 30 people playing....and I don't really like the changes in Dark Crusade. Ah well, at least you get to know alot of the regular players quite well. Anyway - Just wondering if anyone here is still playing online?
-
I'm a Dark Crusade player. I could pop in good old winter assault and play a few rounds with you if you'd like, some time.
-
I mostly play DC these days, but Winter Assault is good too.
(I'm a bit icky about Necrons in DC (Damn they're powerful), but other than that, I think the changes work well. And they fix some of the problems WA caused imo)
I like how SM is back to having only two "proper" commander units (chaplain and FC, Librarian is downgraded), and IG's heavy weapons squad is downright awesome.
And on the whole, the new stealth rules work pretty well too, imo. -
Tao are extremely powerful is you know what to do.
And I do hate the necrons - they somehow resemble talking locomotives(the demo about their base blowing up was so funny)
-
Well, my nickname is havokie, and I play WA, so if anyone is around...I play most evenings! I love how the IG have been improved, but other then that, dislike the new vehicle caps....
-
i'd play but i just beat the originla dawn of war campaign about a week ago and doubt i'd be very good online. gotta brush up on my skills before i venture into the online world of RTS.
just started playing RTS within the last few months. im gonna give company of heroes campaign a shot this week. -
I am Twilight5320 on there. We could always arrange games by PM's and or IM's if y'all wish.
-
I hate god damn rushes. That's one you have to get used to - you've barely just started the game when you're swarmed with a horde of scouts or space marines that the other guy has spent all his money on. Be careful of that online!
Timing might be a bit of a pain given the time differences but....a game would be cool -
lol, yea. East coast USA, Denmark, Ireland, and Iran. Total pain in the butt
-
If you want to learn without getting slaughtered online, a better idea is to hook with one or two friends, and play with those first.
I've played with Australians and Americans in the same game before. Now that is difficult to arrange
-
Iran is 3hr 30min ahead of GTM.
But getting all of us in a single game would take a bit of doing, lolNot that it would be imposible, just interesting
Rushes are fairly easy to beat IMO. They havent really posed much of a problem to me for a long time. -
You need a valid key to get online....or lelse you could use hamachi. In that case though you'd need to know people playing in order to create the network though, you cannot browse regular servers at all. Also, its cheap these days. About 10 or 15 euro new. It also comes free with Company of Heroes. It does here, at least anyway. Definitely worth a purchase.
Rushes are definitely not easy to beat. If you're playing as IG in a standard game and you get rushed by 4 space marine squads, scouts, and 2 force commanders - you might as well just quit straight away. I know, it's happened so many times, not just on quick start but on standard as well...nobody really plays 1on1 either, so it's not like you're just fighting one rush. It's all 2v2, or most popular, 3v3. -
Second, space marines do virtually no damage to buildings (unless they've got weapon upgrades, and then it's hardly a rush any more), which means they have to spend ages to make a dent on your base.
Third, you can build units too. Yes, you need to pump out a few squads of guardsmen early on to be able to survive a rush, but that's because the game has a certain focus on combat. You don't win by picking flowers, you win by crushing the skulls of your enemies. And you need lots of troops for that.
Oh yeah, and don't put all your turrets out at the front of the base. They add good firepower, but they're relatively easy to destroy, so keep them behind or in between other buildings, where they're harder to take out quickly.
Once you accept that yes, I have to get a good number of troops out there ASAP, you're well on your way to handling rushes. Garrison 3 squads inside your HQ, and the SM squads, scouts and force commanders can't really do much other than wait for weapon upgrades. If you then also put your builders and maybe another squad inside your barracks, you've already fought them off. (Remember your builders add as much firepower to a building as a full squad of guardsmen) -
Between classes and work, I'll have some trouble actually playing games in the afternoon.
