Dawn of War 2: Retribution Beta

Note: You may have been required to register at the Retribution community forums before Jan 25th or have pre-ordered to have beta access today, I am not sure this method below will work if not but give it a try anyways.

Ok so THQ and all sites required to get a key to play the beta are down, I have found an alternate way to get a key for anyone who is interested.
1. Download Steam from Welcome to Steam if you have Steam you are already set.

2. Search in Steam for the Dawn of War: Retribution official group, if you search "Dawn of War 2" it is on the second page

3. Join the group and join the group chat.

4. Look on the members of the chat and locate [THQ] Texwegian(something like that, you will know the name when you see it), and choose the option to chat with him.

5. He will auto-send you a beta key, make sure you save it! EDIT: apparently sometimes it takes longer for him to reply but for me it just auto-sent.

6. Go to the games library tab, and at the bottom there will be an option to "+ add a game", and select "activate as product on steam", follow the on screen instructions and enter your key when asked for it.

7. It should auto-add to your steam games list and begin downloading. I am sitting between 1.1 and 6Mbps, this will depend on your internet connection obviously.

I think you must pre-order the game to even be given access to it ._.

 

Like I said, it just auto-sent me a key, how can they know that through a steam chat whether I am registered at their site?

At least try it before debunking it please and thanks.

 

Ah I just got the key. He did asked me if I preordered before giving it to me anyways since i went afk though ._.

 

Hmm maybe I just got lucky? Either way I was registered at their community forums before Jan 25th, maybe they recognized my email? I really don't know, I am going to play though

 

Apparently the minimum requirement was to register at the official site before 25th January ._. Other than that, preorder the pack

 

Yes that or pre-order as you said, I guess on the 8th anyone who has purchased a Dawn of War game via steam will also have beta access.

Has anyone tried IG yet? They have monster tanks!! I actually think they are an awesome race but I would have preferred Tau. They are a little OP at the moment IMO, but this is what a beta is for right?

My main gaming related goal, for Q1 of 2011, was to get a gaming notebook capable of playing 4v4 Retribution @ Ultra settings, 1080p and 60fps.

My night went like this:

- download beta
- run benchmark, 1680x1050 Ultra
- Results:
Avg - 29.7fps
Min - 10fps
- cry

Hell, at this point I'd settle for getting through a 1v1 with a 30fps average.

Intel has ruined my early enjoyment of the only 2011 release I really care about.

 

My desktop had issues when I had my 4870 1GB playing it with good min FPS, it is fine now but I am surprised your laptop does that well, maybe turn off AA if your using it? This is one of the most demanding games I own.

 

If you register at the Dawn of War II forums you can get a key without pre ordering.

One of my mates did this last night. I'm pretty sure he wasn't registered before.

BTW if you want to run this game at 1080p Ultra settings you are going to need a M17x, Mine has a 740QM and dual ATI 5870's in crossfire and in Chaos Rising I get Minimum 19 fps average 48 fps on ultra settings. This translates to a great framerate in game.

I haven't downloaded the beta yet can't wait though!
