Is Dawn of War II Single Player decent, or is the game all about multiplayer? I told myself I would buy it when it was reduced in price, and it's $25 at Steam for the moment.

But I'm not real big on multiplayer with this game. I enjoyed the original DoW single player campaigns.

    Thoughts/suggestions?

Well, I played a little bit the demo, which was only multiplayer. My impression is that the game feels very different from the original DoW campaigns, not necessarily for a worse, but it is not the same.

I liked it very much, although it has a very different touch from DOW. It is Company of Heroes on the Warhammer 40k universe.

As a diehard fan and player of the tabletop miniature game, I really liked the plot and atmosphere of the single player campaign. It is worhty, IMO.

Very different than the first one. I never even bothered with the multiplayer, I would say single player is where it's at. Gotta say I enjoyed it a lot, it let me use a little strategy in more than one way which was awesome.

Good to hear! I guess I'll bite. I may play a game or two of multiplayer, but want a solid single player campaign.

Good :) you'll enjoy it. It's not your typical RTS, it just focuses you on a handful of squads that you build up and upgrade RPG style over the course of the game. I guess there are a few games already like that, but I've yet to play them :-/

Yea the single-player is very RPGish, you can add attributes to your squad and picky up weapons and armor, but it does kind of get repetitive after a while.

    Is it worth $25 then?

I really enjoyed it. I don't like Warhammer or 40K but I bought DOW2 the day of release based on how good DOW was. I wasn't let down :) The online is very fun as well, especially if you run into a nice party and you end up playing a few games with them.

Easily, I would pay more for it, not more than $40, I wouldnt pay full price for it, but thats without the multi-player, the single player is really good IMO.

Ok, I just played through the demo and I'm not liking it. Am I missing something? I loved CoH.

i didn't play much of multiplayer either, mainly cuz i'm afraid i'll get my behind handed to me. but the single player is really good, action-oriented and cinematic at times. i think recently they released expansionish patch called There Is Only War which adds some new weapons and maps stuff like that. so yeah if it's 25 i would definitely get it, unless you are only into the traditional building building and crank out units type of RTS.

I'm fond of games like CoH which people keep referring to for this gameplay type. I like both types of RTS. The original DoW wasn't so much about resource gathering either, it was about capturing strategic points, which was like CoH.

I bought it on sale, and I really like it. Single-player is fun, but multi-player is where it shines. It's not a typical rts..no base building.

That's the thing. I got in on the beta multiplayer and wasn't really all the impressed. Partially because I don't invest as much time as others do, so get my a$$ handed to me all the time. That's why I like single player. Usually can scale the difficulty to my liking.

It seemed like a Diablo 3 type of grind. Click at enemies, repeat. Not much strategy.

I passed on the steam deal. I want rts games to get back to AoEII style, where you build lots of buildings, with no territory limiter. So that you actually build a city, empire, society for you citizens to live in. I like games that last 2 hours instead of a quick 20min rush.
