Wow no thread on Dead Island? It launched today and looks like a mix of L4D and Resident Evil. Its a survival horror more RPG than FPS. Reviews seem to be solid and the gameplay looks good as does the game for a source based engine game (i think). Anyone playing? Verdict? Yay or Nay?

Not source, it uses propietary Chrome 5.0 engine. The game looks more RPG than anything, because from what I have read, it is not very solid of a game, but decent and quite not the survival horror per se.
I am interested because I like Zombie games, but I am a bit weary about getting this one right now. Specially after the whole PC fiasco with the wrong version on Steam. -
Update: Wrong Dead Island Released on Steam - PC News at IGN
Good thing I didn't pre-load the game on steam and start playing at Midnight. What a mess. At least they corrected it..
Edit: Ryzeki..you beat me to it. I just read on the steam fiasco. I linked it for other members to read. I am on the fence too..... -
Yeah after an update or two, it will be a nice multiplayer game.
I am not very "demanding" when it comes to multiplayer games because with friends, everything is fun lol but not when you have so many issues and not exactly a solid game. -

I got it because its 4 player co-op and I like to make co-op videos. Deagleson already bought it so it tempted me a bit, then when I say it on sale for 33% off I had to bite.
However I have not got my key yet ><
The largest "meh" from my team so far is that they do not like how its so melee focused as borderlands players they like guns and the option to use guns & melee. -
Well, what do you expect.
Its not like an island resort packs enough gun to win world war 3, just saying. xD
But there are some weapons scattered around.
@ ViciousXUSMC
My copy unlocks this friday (Blasted EU, im not even part of it. rawr) so if you wanna try the coop out let me know. -
It's fun, I only spent $36 because of a promo code so I couldn't pass up. I've been playing both single and co op campaign, although co-op was messing up for a while so we eventually gave up playing together. The combat is amazing, it feels nice how zombies react to every single blow of a melee weapon, I have yet to obtain some guns though.

I do not have Deus EX yet but yeah I want to do it.
Need to finish Bastion and then Deus EX is my next single player game. -

Was watchin a friend play it. For some odd reason the gameplay seemed so choppy, even he said so. He was getting like 55-60 fps on his laptop. Whenever he turned or moved there were what seemed like microstutters all over the place.

Supposedly after some tweaks it looks pretty good, still console portish, narrow fov, awkward mouse/movement etc.
I think that choppy issue has to do with netplay, there is a way around it and it should be patched. -
i read that this game is a must for people who want to coop, but people who want to play SP this might get REAL boring REAL fast.
I will not be buying it. I am a lonely man -

Just like borderlands
But with the rpg elements it may not be half bad in SP. -
Chrome engine... That's the same one used for Sniper Ghost Warrior is it not? I think that engine runs pretty well.

Let's Play Borderlands 4 Player Co-Op - YouTube
on that note I am trying to get us all to play Dead Island next.
Me and Deagle have it, Jeff said he is not thrilled about the game but would play it just to play with the group, and I think Jenna wants to play this game just has no money for it so if I can find a way to get it for her we should be good to go for the 4 player co-op playthrough of Dead Island.
My biggest two worries was getting Deagle to play cross country and if Jennas computer would handle it. But this game supports LAN so we can play via Hamachi and probably soon Game Ranger will support it and the requirements seem nice and low so Jenna can play it.
From what I read on the forums for this game its really fun co-op, -
too scary for me and too melee. I refuse to kill zombies without a sniper rifle.

I happen to be a sniper in borderlands
(and we happen to be doing the zombie dlc right now)
-
No worries. :3
Its not GameSpy (aka should die), but Steamworks for the netplay. -
I have gone from drooling with anticipation, to waiting to get this when its discount. Such a shame...
-
If anyone is going to get it Amazon has it for $39.99. Since it uses steam works you can just enter the code in steam and get it.

I have this game, have been playing singleplayer, and it is awesome. Yes, there are bugs, but those should be patched soon. The gameplay for killing zombies is really just great though. If you can get it for $40 or under (easy if you look around a bit), then I would highly recommend it.
-
I bought it as a preorder on Steam for 45 euros, and i get free DLC + lame preorder weapon.
Probably could get it a little cheaper, but at least 45 euros (340kr) is cheaper than what my local GameStop wants, 66 euros. (499kr) -
I saw a couple of videos of Co-op gameplay...it looks nice but, yes, there are some bugs here and there. I will be waiting until they sort some things out and then will get. I hope it plays somewhat well in my aging dv7...

Guess we Europeans + others who gotta wait until Friday got lucky.
Would hate to see my progress be corupted by a fix to patch the game from buggy dev mode to retail. D; -
By now, if you've got yourself a copy of Dead Island, then you probably know that the digital copy released to Steam was not the release build of the game. Deep Silver has apologized to zombie slayers for this PC muck-up, and a correct version of the game is now available on Steam. In addition, Deep Silver has something planned to "make up" to North American fans affected by the day one PC issues, and they'll release details on that soon.
The Bloodbath DLC is still on schedule as planed, and pre-order fans will still receive the DLC when it launches. Finally, there is an activation bug for "The Ripper" due to the version update, this will be fixed in the next game patch. Check out the patch notes below. Note that the update may cause incompatibilities between the incorrect version of Dead Island and the fixed version. If you have a problem select New Game -> Select the same character as you were using before, then at the "Chapter Select" option you can jump to the last chapter you were playing.

Man I am on the fence. I did NOT like dead rising at all and really I hate console FPS/RPG and this has that "look" written all over it. I really love zombie/survival games though so I would like to say I am going to buy this. I dunno...
-
I loved Dead Rising and I was scared of even playing it. But Dead island seems weak.

Does anybody want to play Dead Island Coop this weekend?
-
I found a post on the steam forums about removing the keyboard repeat when holding a key down, and wow it is butter smooth now. I heard if you use a controller it works fine but kb & mouse it has this issue.
Anyway, disabling the repeat function works for now. I really don't want to have to go back and forth all the time with that as a permenant fix tho. -
Does anyone know how to increase the critical chance on a weapon? My friend gave me a weapon that someone gave him that had 100% critical chance on it and just wondering how is it possible.
Dead Island???!
