Just picked this up last night. Absolutely loving it! The controls are fine after disabling vsync and adjusting mouse sensitivity as people have said. Ya those necros that get stuck in walls are a pain. It actually scares the crap outta me because it sounds like something is scurrying quickly towards me around the corner or above me, lol.

I am playing it on my desktop (AMD 5000+ BE, 8800GT, 2GB) everything maxed at 1680x1050 and I am averaging 70-112 FPS using FRAPS. It plays like a 4 year old game on my system (ala Doom 3). It looks great graphically but I think I might install Doom 3 or Quake 4 and do some comparisons. Looking at the necros close up they don't really seem anymore detailed than the monsters in Doom 3. And the environments are obviously quite similar too. But maybe I am wrong, it's been a while since I played it?

I was looking @ Dead Space in store yesterday. I couldn't decide b/w 360 or PC version. PC version is $10 cheaper.

Personally I prefer PC. The control scheme is a bit different but that is not unusual for a 3rd person game on PC (Splinter Cell/Tomb Raider etc...). I can't compare graphics or gameplay between the two versions as I don't have a 360 but imo, this is a fantastic PC game. I even bought a game pad just in case I didn't like the controls on PC and I have not even bothered plugging it in because the game is totally smooth.

Like one NBR member's avatar says... Dirty Console Peasant or PC Master Gaming Race! The choice is yours. :)

On my 9500m GS (~8600m GT)

Maxed out every option at 1280x800 runs at a constant average 30 (plus minus 5) FPS. Overclocked will average out at 37-40ish.

Don't fret it. Remember that college will always be around, good games only happen once every several months or so. ;)

Isn't it almost crazy how well this game runs on all types of hardware? An 8400m GT could likely achieve playable framerates on a mix medium-high settings.

And to think, I thought my 9800 would be put to the test by this game, and I'm pulling at 70+ fps @ 1680x1050. If new games coming into the new year are all going to be this optimized, 2009 will be a great year for notebook gamers.

I just encountered the first "true" boss battle at the end of chapter 6. I defeated him already but I think I am going to replay that part again to achieve better result (for spare ammo and med-kit). The last phase of this boss battle should be do-able without ammo at all IMO if you're good enough.

BTW just for the tip : I found a way to kill the wall necromorphs. The key is still chopping their arms/tentacles to pieces. First kill of the babies that come out from its stomach. At first I thought it can produce unlimited number of babies but actually it can produce at most 4. When finish with the babies just go for the tentacles (I think the middle tentacle from his stomach that is capable of "instant-killing" you is the main weakness, if you destroy this part then host should die as well but I have not confirmed this).

Or you can just use the line gun's timed mine like I stated earlier which only takes a single piece of ammo. Not a problem at all.

30-35 FPS at 1680x1050? That's pretty nice, did you overclock at all?

    i overclock yea.

    523/1163/743

i try push it more and more every now and then, but it starts to artifact at pretty low levels. (like at 550 range, i know many people who can easily get above 560, 600 even).

It must be the DDR3 then

because my clocks at 580/1200/465 hover at mid 20's FPS at 1680x1050 and drops to the teens are common.

What kind of frames do you get at 1280x800?

This game runs like a 4 year old game on my desktop machine. I average 99FPS with a 3 minute test using FRAPS (8800GT, AMD 2.6Ghz, 2GB). I am not surprised at the excellent FPS on mid-range mobile graphics. Looks pretty smooth in your vid Brian. I can never get the audio to record in FRAPS, I am jealous. Cheers :)

I'm pretty sure he means that the game's performance (frames per second) is like that of a 4 year old game. For the game to look as good as it does, while running as well as it does, is really amazing.

But from what I've been reading so far about DS, I don't think my heart could take it.

For the first time ever I play the whole game again after finishing it!!
This game is amazing. I like resident evil all parts, Silent Hill all parts, Doom3, and FEAR, but this game ( Dead Space is different) I recommend playing it with Xbox controller!
