Hi
I tried looking this up online with no luck.
In Dead Space 1, I bought a pulse rifle, but there isn't any ammo available in the stores... Do I have to find a schematic before it becomes available?

Pshhhht. Pretty much all you need in Dead Space is the Plasma Cutter. Upgrade it all the way, and you're set for 95% of the time, including bosses, and you'll never run out of ammo either. The only other weapon that is really useful is the shotgun, to deal with the uh... tiny squirming things.

Pretty much every weapon is good in Dead Space (at full upgrades). On topic, yes you do need a schematic to be able to buy pulse rounds.

You'll find the schematic in that chapter or the next. Though just having it equipped, even if you're using the Plasma Cutter, will net you tons of ammo.
I've never once paid for ammunition. The game throws it at you in heaps. -
The game will give you ammo based on what weapons you have equipped, so just run around a little bit with that weapon in your inventory and eventually you will find some.

Plasma Cutter and The Ripper , these are the best 2 imo.
-
Nah, the Line Gun is so good, it's flat out broken.

I didn't really encounter anything that I needed the Line Gun for. Like I said, went through almost the entire game with the Plasma Cutter. Occasionally pulled out the Ripper for some fun times, and the shotgun for the little bugs.
And what was the "ultimate" weapon? I can't remember what it was, except that it sucked. -
For me, the Line Gun feels like a better Plasma Cutter. It can cut down multiple enemies, and Stasis -> Tech Mine can destroy several strong necros at once; it's especially useful for mobs of those little sticky things.

The Line Gun -is- an enhanced plasma cutter, but having to watch your ammo is a pain. Lower capacity, higher cost, and a lot of each shot is wasted in that it goes into a wall instead of a mob anyway. Plasma Cutter is good enough even for boss fights, especially when fully upgraded.
Dead Space 1 pulse rifle ammo.
