    From Yougamers.com

    We've added the minimum requiremers for Dead Space to the Game-o-Meter. Here is a recap:

    * Processor Speed: 2.8GHz
    * Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista
    * System Memory: 1GB RAM
    * Hard Drive Space: 7GB
    * Video: 256MB DirectX 9.0-compatible NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or ATI Radeon X1600 Pro video card with Shader 3.0 support
    * Drive: DVD-ROM

    No recommendations (as seems to be the norm with many EA titles), but Dead Space does seem like it might ask for something a bit faster to run smoothly. Release date for the PC version is currently set at the week of 20th of October 2008 - the exact date depends where you live. According to the EA store, for EU, it appears to be the 24th.

    Sounds good to me.. my guess if you could run Bioshock good, then you'll run this similar to it. Since its a Closed Corridors game aswell.

    Not bad at all. Hopefully I can max this out at 1920x1200 then.

    Well, Bioshock's minimum GPU was a 6600GT. Crysis' minimum was a 6800GT (same as Dead Space). So I think it will run more similarly to Crysis than Bioshock; so for my HD 2600, it'll be 1024x768 low/medium settings.

    So I think I'll pass on this. I've found with the HD 2600, games that have a minimum GPU of a nVidia 6600GT will run well, but a 6800GT is on the limit.

    I dont think so.. Crysis is an open world game.. with much Stuff to render, thats why the performance is a bit low, Now Imagine Crysis was a corridor shooter, then the performance will be up to par with any Unreal Engine 3 game.

    The style of the game doesn't matter, what I'm getting at is that you'll probably need a 9600m GT (or 8800m series ideally) for it to run well with medium/high settings at a resolution higher than 1024x768.

    Of course, I am only guessing. Mass Effect and Grid also have a 6800GT as their minimum GPU, and from what I've heard they run ok on the 8600m GT. If Dead Space doesn't look terrible on low/medium I may consider it...but then again, it's an EA game so won't it have a limited number of activations?

    I see your point, but the style of the game doesn't mean it isn't as demanding. Yes, Crysis has to render a lot, but it scales very well and on lower settings doesn't render objects with as much detail. Corridor-based shooters may not have to render as much, but they can be just as demanding as everything's up close and more tends to be more detailed and may use more shader techniques. So in the end, I think the developers have to design their game based on the technology available so the demands of different game styles get balanced out.

    In the past, some of the most demanding games have previously been corridor-based shooters, like Doom 3 and F.E.A.R.

    I wouldn`t hold my breath on that one.
    Exactly. But then again, FEAR and Doom3 were revolutions in their kind...
    I don`t expect to max this game for some reason.
    However...as long as I can play it on max details at 1680x1050...I`m fine with it :)

    The game looks good, especially with those comics released a while ago setting up the background story.

    Edit: link for those who are interested for the comic (animated ones actually)

    Plus, the 6th part is out, which I haven't watched yet. :)

    This guys writing for PC World on his Mac!?! LOL Anyways, more and more this game is sounding like this year's Bioshock to me. Like Bioshock I hardly gave it a second glance till shortly before launch. Then on launch day I was so jealous reading the forums with everyone sharing their joys and scares etc... with the game I had to go buy it right away. Low and behold it was my favorite game of 2007. From what I have seen Dead Space IS this year's Bioshock and call me superstitious but the pattern leading up to its release is saying "Thund3rball, you are buying this game on launch day!"

    bioshock is definately still one of my favs, if not my most, i think dead space isn't really for the bioshock crowd.

    Sure you can say bioshock was "scary" but it really doesn't seem nearly as scary as dead space.

    dead space looks like one of those games where i will be like "WOAH **** THIS ****" and put it down, and not beat it for like a year.

    LMAO at that. :D

    Ya DS looks to be more horror than Bioshock but I think the audience is not so far apart as you say. At any rate I hope it lives up to the recent hype. So far it looks very good. But it could just end up being a fancy Doom, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I am hoping for something just a bit more.

    Seeing Bioshock comparisons pop up in every Dead Space topic on every board makes me want to write up a page long post on the System Shock, and why Bioshock is not the quintessential game that it's believed to be.

    I am sorry it wasn't the SS3 like you hoped. And WTH are you talking about "quintessential game that it's believed to be"? It's a game with a great story, atmosphere, characters, gameplay etc... If you didn't like it, oh well *shrugs*.

    My comparison of DS to Bioshock is based on the fact that the art direction looks a little similar and it is heavily story driven. I am also comparing it on a personal level in that I paid little attention to either game till shortly before launch, and got very excited as release day neared. Likely will be my personal sleeper hit of 2008, same as Bioshock was my personal sleeper hit of 2007. But really I would agree that a better gameplay comparison to DS might be Resident Evil 4 in space or Doom 3/Silent Hill cross.

    Biosock had a couple of scares in it. Like the surgeon standing behind you after you pick up some loot in a small room in the medical area. That made me jump pretty good lol. But the atmosphere was fantastic. Extremely well done characters, voice acting, sounds, story etc... it was chilling at times. But for sure DS will be downright sh1t my pants playing at night kind of game. :)

    Bioshock was downright creepy in the beginning, but later once you get more gear what can really scare you right? (Don't want to list any 'gear' in case of spoilers)

    Dead Space deserves to be played at night with the lights off and the sound allll the way up. That's how I'm going to play it at least (at highest difficulty too :D).

    Me in 1 week (warning, strong language in webcomic)

    My good sir, how'd you come to honing your strong and uniquely creative force of one-liners and (asinine!) insults?

    Please, sir, do enlighten us unworthy, low plebes with more vanguard witticisms.

    Color me optimistic, but I foresee a slew of coffee-table publishing deals in your future. There is most certainly an untapped market--comprised wholly of idiot savants!--in which your high-brow, enriching commentary would be most cherished and admired.

    Sir, please, continue.

    Dead Space might actually be the real definition of scary. In Bioshock, I found myself just getting startled a lot when the lights go out and you turn around to a bunch of zombies.

    I will have to see how it compares with Doom 3. Doom 3 had the best "scare me sh*tless" atmosphere, especially the audio. I was freaked out every night I played it.

    If Dead Space can do the same thing, I'll be happy, or scared, or whatever... you know what I mean. Like this guy:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHaH5FMJQZA
