Two hours in and I like the game more than I thought I would ! #1 because I rarely like ported games and #2 Don't care for OTS (over the shoulder view)
Running everything maxed-out and game looks great, but , and I read this somewhere on the forums, disable v-sync in-game and enable v-sync in your gpu control panel to help mouse lag. I did these two things and have mouse sensatvity cranked wide open. Lag is better, but not as good as I'd hoped.
Is the lag in this game normal ? Also, has crashed once on me !

I have some issue with it too. I disabled all vsync. So far no tearing that wasn't bearable.

You absolutly must turn off game vsync atleast I did or the game was ruined with mouse lag.
I thought the game was horrible for 2 reasons, the horrible controls and the view.
The view just like you I got used to fast, the controls were not messed up it was just the vsync lag, fixed it by turning off game vsync and then forcing it in my ati control panel, and also I use d3d overidder tool part of RivaTuner, it acts as a vsyc/fps cap to keep me under 60 fps.
Me and my son both really like this game, its his favorite game to watch me play
There is a remedy to the bad view too -

Whoa! That looks like an increased FOV. Is that native to the game or do you need a workaround?

You can leave V-Sync on if you have an XBox 360 wired gamepad.
I wanted this game on PC, but the mouse and keyboard controls are absolutely disgraceful, I cannot believe EA let it out the door in this condition. Worse yet, they have yet to patch the game to fix it!
Anyway, at 1440x900 with all medium/high settings the game is incredibly fun using an Xbox 360 gamepad. With a mouse and keyboard it is virtually impossible to even walk toward a door and open it with V-sync active. Even turned off, the input lag is pathetic.
My specs:
Macbook Pro 2.4GHz
4 GB RAM
8600m GT GDDR3 (256 MB)
Vista Ultimate 32-bit

We have hacks for almost every major game. -
I thought it was one of the best games I ever played. YMMV
I tured off Vsync. -
honestly, use a 360 controller. There is no lag.

just turn off the vsync, if you have tearing get d3d overrider. -
And the v-sync thing didn't seem to change the lag on my laptop, but it really made a huge difference with the desktop. Go figure. -

the pie of gloves, one of my fav programs I write wiimote scripts for it and a few other things.
though for somebody that just needs a key map program there are many alternatives that are easier for them.
xpadder, pinnicle game profiler to name a couple. -
Especially if they're taking my "PC Gaming" money ! -
I feel the same as you rdalev. However, I've conceded in some instances to using my X360 gamepad. It makes life a whole lot easier. I use it so far with Tom Clancy's HAWX and Dead Space. Although I haven't gotten too far in Dead Space, and restarted a couple times because I kept switching between keyboard/mouse and gamepad. So am restarting again with the gamepad and it seems the most comfortable.
That's the issue with console ports though. The PC typically gets the "quick fix" while concentrating on the consoles. To be expected I guess since a majority of their sales and profits come from the consoles. But not an excuse by any means. -
If you have a variable-DPI mouse you can get great mouse control...
In something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Electronic Arts\Dead Space
There's a settings.txt file, and in there there's the setting:
Control.MouseSensitivity = 4.00000000
The in-game slider goes from 0.0 to 1.0. Crank it to 4.0, though, and lower your mouse DPI to 400, and you'll have great in-game mouse control. Menu control will be difficult (really jumpy cursor), but it still works.
Huge, huge improvement.
It's also important to keep the game at 60 FPS or 75 FPS and no higher (otherwise the mouse control slows down in screwy ways while looking around), which generally means forcing vsync with your drivers and keeping your monitor at 60 Hz or 75 Hz (the in-game vsync syncs to only half your refresh rate, which is why it adds lag, so disable it there and force it with your drivers). -
Besides disabling v-sync in game and turning it on using Nvidia Control Panel, I haven't had any problems at all with Dead Space.
The controls are all right with me. Character movement is meant to be a little awkward since it is a survival horror game. -
And you got this inside information where ? -
Well that's just my opinion. In the survival horror genre, if you could move around as easy as you could in an FPS, it wouldn't really be that scary.

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing

There is no instant side dash or anything crazy like Unreal Tourmanent or Doom here.
If you step to one side you cant step the other way until the entire motion is completed just like real life.
That said I thought the game was broken as heck when I got it due to the mouse issues, when I googled it and found a little hint at the vsync problem, soon as I turned it off the game played perfectly and just as it should. -
The increased FOV makes it a little less scary, no?

Increased FOV? not really you see more but that also puts you more in the game.
I wouldnt increase the FOV for a single monitor, but for a 3 monitor setup its a must.
