When i installed Dead Space and tried to run it, it says that my graphics card (9800m GTS) does not meet the minimum requirements and then closes....is there any way I can bypass this and play the game anyway? I know my GPU can probably handle the game but just not at maxed settings.

It's strange since I thought my GPU could pretty much play any game.

Double check power savings mode and your drivers are installed properly, it sounds like the game isn't detecting your adaptor properly.

Uh oh, I remember a similar thread from back when the game launched. In it, people with the 9800M GTX and a few GTS reported the same issue. I looked for it, but it was too old for the search.

It had something to do with device IDs being recognized, and I don't remember if a solution came up. I'll try to come back with help.

    What driver are you using?

My computer is already high performance, and my driver number is 7.15.11.8581.

I initially thought that it was just that my card isn't powerful enough, until I found the game being played on another p-7805u on youtube at 30 fps...

Edit: OK I did a Google search and found this http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/179.28/179.28_WinVista_Release_Notes.pdf

If you go to page 15 then it says that Dead Space will only have that message if "your monitor does not support 60 HZ refresh rate". I looked at my monitor and sure enough it had only a 59 HZ refresh rate.....

So now my question is this: is there anything I can do?

Edit2: Found the thread, but no solution: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=313938

Never mind, I figured it out. I forced a 60 Hz refresh rate on my 59 Hz refresh rate LCD.

How'd you do that? Nvidia Control Panel?

I've seen people say that didn't work.

You own a gateway FX correct? I don't understand how you can have this issue in the first place.

Yeah I own a Gateway, but my screen broke so I ordered a LG screen from EBAY. My old one did have a 60 Hz function. Thus, it couldn't have been my driver problem but only the screen problem.

I changed the refresh rate via custom resolutions on Nvidia Control Panel, and for me it didn't work unless I changed the timing standard from "auto" to something else (I tried three of them and they all worked). There's been no problems so far.

It's all good though; I was really afraid I'd have to buy another screen in order to play games like this and BF2 just because of a difference of 1 Hz.
