I beat Dead Space yesterday and I like it a lot it was the first game I have sat and played from beginning to end like that in a long time.

I for one before I buy a game usually go to youtube and search for gameplay videos and more often than not I am very disappointed by the quality of the video or the footage and fillers (And I REALLY HATE searching for HD videos and only find 1/30 of then are HD the rest are SD)

So I took it into my own hands to produce some quality stuff. I recorded chapter 5 on my first play through so you get the effect of seeing what a player may do there first time through not knowing whats going on or whats happening.

Its going to be broke into probably 4 parts due to file/time limits of youtube.

    Here is Part 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4V3GeDfd-dc&fmt=22

    Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFXsaFGp31U&fmt=22

    Part 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He0gCS0prvU&fmt=22

    Part 4 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pbb6bf4LMI&fmg=22

    _____________________________________________

Important: These are HD files so they have a high bitrate, unless you have a very fast internet connection and youtube is running its full speed it may not load fast enough in real time for it to play without skipping. If youtube is being slow or your connection is slow just start the video and then pause it. Watch the red bar "grow" that red bar is how far into the video has been buffered to your computer so it can play without loading from the net. Depending on how fast your loading the video allow the bar go far enough so you can play the video and not run out of buffered space.

So just open the video, pause it and then go do something else for a bit, read the forums, get some food ect. When you come back play it and enjoy it. For comparison my connection at home just barly can open the video and play it in real time without letting it load and I have Fiber Optic 20mb/s download speeds, though I doubt its my ISP thats barly making the cut its probably youtube.

These links should take you directly to the HD version because they have "&fmt=22" in them, but if you get to the video from youtube search or something its going to be the low quality version and you will have to click the "Watch in HD" link located just under the video. Likewise while viewing it in HD the link is there to view it in normal quality but its absolutely horrible in comparison so I highly recommend viewing the HD version and thats the main reason I uploaded these HD clips for you.
    _____________________________________________

Feedback on Chapter 5 has been great! So I will be more than happy to record a play through of other chapters or events. I must admit Dead Space is very entertaining to watch, its like a movie :p I have even watched my own videos a few times at work tonight.

I plan to maybe do a weapons demonstration, a monster demonstration, and will start to make new threads doing the same thing for other games (I have Mirrors Edge on the way) So I am happy to find a new nitch as the HD video guy :p

Feel free to rate & comment on the videos in youtube as well.

The wind will handle the normal quality link but it wont look even close to as good. Just take the "&fmt=22" out of my links, or click the watch in normal quality link inside youtube.

I feel exactly the same way about this game.

Before I had a job and couldn't afford many games I would beat a game I enjoyed sometimes 3 or 4 times. But in the last 4-5 years I've spent thousands of dollars on video games and have bought so many I can't even remember them all but its very rare that I beat one and even rarer that I beat it a 2nd time and recommend it to everyone I know (last game like this was GOW and before that RE4).

Thanks for taking time putting these videos together :)

I'll cook up part 3 and 4 when I get off work tonight to finish off chapter 5, I just started a new game on replay mode so may get some other extra stuff in there like a weapon showcase, a enemy showcase, and the boss battles and stuff.

WOW! that looks great. to bad my computer can't handle the clips though so i only watched like a min of it. It was choppy for me(my computer is very old). +rep for the great clips i'll try to watch it again some other time and thats one game i will not play even though it gets a lot of great reviews.

Edit: It seems i can't give you rep "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to ViciousXUSMC again."

Go spread some rep then lol :p

Unless you have a very old/slow computer it should play fine. 720P does not take much to play. My EEE with a 1.6ghz single core Atom can handle it ok.

Chances are maybe your internet connection is not fast enough to stream it in real time due to the high bit rate. So what you do is start the video and pause it. You should see the red bar "grow" this red area is all buffered onto your computer so it can play without loading off the net.

Let that bar go about half way or more depending on how fast its loading and then the video should play with no skipping.

I have been spreading rep, the last time i repped you was when we were talking about projectors and i have repped a lot of people since then. and now that you mention it it is because of my Internet connection i have the cheapest plan and its very slow :( , im gonna be upgrading it soon. I do let it load(not completely all the way since im not patient) but when i play it it is still very choppy but the little i did see was good enough for me to make up my mind not to buy the game.haha.

Cool, I was just joking about the rep.

But you brought up a good point about the speed of loading so I added a disclaimer to the main post to bring to the attention of other people that they will probably need to let the video load for a bit due to its high bitrate.

I really like this, its a fun service to offer to everybody at the forums so I think I will start doing HD gameplay/walkthrough vids for all the major games I find time to play.

Mirrors Edge should be coming in the mail in a couple of days, that should be another fairly exciting video to watch in HD.

Congratulations on beating the game, I personally hated Chapter 5 since it's a potential ammo-waster and has one death-trap room which is annoying to escape from.

How did you find Chapters 9-11? Those are fairly challenging especially if you run short on ammunition.

Except for the very end I was usually in a surplus of ammo. This is probably because I only used two weapons and nearly fully upgraded them so I got the most bang for my buck with each shot. I mean I sold atleast 40+ full sets of line gun ammo to the store for power nodes.

I used the plasma cutter and the line gun. I had to finish off the boss with the line gun and that was hard since its so slow, so really I never ran out of ammo I just ran out of ammo for my cutter at some points.

I hear the ripper is super ammo efficient, and my new game I have started now I wanted to use the contact beam as my main and its super ammo inefficient, even pretty much killing every enemy with one shot and not missing I am out of ammo for it ever other room, so my main wep this play through si the force gun for everythig and then I break out the contact beam for stuff far away or for big guys.

Next play through if I do it again will be the ripper & the repeater gun. Though I doubt I will do a 3rd play through so I may just use cheats on this one to max out those weapons and try them out.

Vicious - what do you use for the controls? Keyboard and mouse, or did you get an Xbox 360 controller? It was hell on Earth trying to play this game until I found a keymapper to use. Now I have my new desktop with kickass graphics card and your vids are pushing me to start playing this again just at the right time.

I had no problems at all using keyboard & mouse. Thats the best way to play FPS if you ask me. Analog sticks are not as good as a mouse IMO.

I have a 360 controller and I do use it for some games.

    Devil May Cry 4
    Phantasy Star Online
    Emulators

So anways I am at work and got part 3 up today!

Yeah the game look great, and it really does not take a lot of power for this game honestly.

You can build my desktop for about $1000 and it runs this game at about 170 frames per second with the resolution set to 1920x1080 and all settings to the highest amoun. I run it with vsync on though so it limits it to 60fps. Also I only recorded the video's at 30fps, so it limits the game to only 30fps when recording (not to mention you get a HUGE performance hit when recording)

Goes to show proper coding and design go a long way, games that do not look as good can take 2x the power just due to bad code.

I love this game but it can get very frustrating and long. I finished chapter 7 and then went to check how many chapters it is....12!

Also my game switched difficulty from medium to hard after the 2nd chapter.....WTH!

    Nice HD vids.

One thing I nloticed is that you seem to have occasional loading times (delays) when opening some of the large blast doors, and I'm surprised because I've never experienced them on my notebook, up to Chapter 8 atm. I know the console versions have loads at doors, but the PC version shouldn't.

Edit: Are you an external mouse?
    ---

An unrelated side note: on Youtube you can go into your account settings, to the Playback Setup tab, and there you can set it to automatically load the highest quality video available.

    Das impossible mang.

The loading time is due to recording, one of these 8 minute videos before I compress it and send it off to youtube is like 56GB its writing so much data to the hard drive every second that it really slows down performance, also I was P2P sharing at the time too lol.

When I turn off recording performance jumps 10 fold.

Thanks Vicious for these videos, they are truly amazing.
I like how each one ends on a cliffhanger, with Part 3 having the best one yet :O

Regarding Mirror's Edge, I picked it up yesterday. It's a great game, with amazing visuals to boot. It has very frustrating moments, where you are being chased and the exit isn't as easy as you first think.

I guess you were not thinking with portals :p

As for the cliffhanger it just happened that way. I record it in chunks thats why you may see a frame skip now and then this way I do not have one gigantic file, and I just toss them into my editor to be as big as possible in the pre-set chucks until I am unable to add another without going over 10 minutes.

I can encode the stuff pretty fast but uploading it to youtube takes forever (almost all day for 1 clip) Im still working on a good way to encode these to H264 instead of Xvid so I can make the file smaller, and I hope that means faster uploading, and maybe even less loss in quality on youtube since H264 is a codec they recomend for HD material.

Im running a test job with Handbrake now, my favorite program Avidemux just does not seem to work with anything I make myself, it worked on most of my dvd rips though.

Edit: Most Awesome! My test file just got done and it looks perfectly fine to me, so now I should be able to do these as H264/AAC.Mp4 files instead of XVID/Mp3.Avi files. Much better encoding. So need to do the old way with my test file to compare them and then send them both off to youtube to see if they get torn apart differently.

Also part 4 just got done at the same time! - Part 4 (not live yet at the time of this posting) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pbb6bf4LMI&fmt=22

Edit2: :( well its not quite there, the quality is there but there is a distinctive split second frame skip when very fast motion happens. I can probably remedy it with different settings

This chapter of the game is complete with all 4 parts on the first post.

I got Mirrors Edge yesterday and soon as I get it working right thats what I want to do next.

I also did some test and think the quality is slightly better when I code to H264 and I just got that working after these videos so the next set may be a better quality (its too close to really tell, but its a smaller file size too)
