I used the 9700M to play Call of Duty: WAW and Battlefield 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and finally Left 4 Dead.

I adjust the settings based on the demands of the game. For example, I can play battlefield 2 on high, but Left 4 Dead only on low. The framerate is good and the gameplay is very smooth. However, after 10 to 15 minutes, the game gets laggy. just jumpy and a little slow.

The same thing happens with every game.

My GPU is supposed to be able to handle the games at the appropriate setting.

    What can be done?

What's your system? Make, Model, RAM, HDD, CPU, Screen resolution, etc.

And are you talking 9700M GT or GTS? What driver are you using?

    Are you monitoring temperatures?

    Acer Aspire 8930G. 4GB RAM. Quad 2.0Ghz.

Everything plays fine for 10 minutes then laggy.

No mention of temperatures, maybe the card is downclocking due to unacceptably high temperatures.

Should play them all on high to be honest as long as the rest is up to scratch.

As others have said, what are your temps?

Just download HWMonitor, then let it run while you play a game for 15 to 30 minutes. Once you exit, we'll know how high your temps are getting.

It's not guaranteed to be a heat problem, but we just need to scratch that off the list.

Also, are you playing with an external mouse? I've heard of USB issues causing problems.

yes, I am playing with an external mouse.

I willtry the HWMonitor, thanks. but I don't think it can be a heat issue.

Some laptops have their GPUs clocked too high for a number of reasons, just because it's new doesn't mean the cooling system or GPU settings may be configured properly.

Try HW monitor as suggested. Or try new drivers for your gpu. I suggest dox's over a laptopvideo2go.com.

It could also be the surface you have your notebook on. Contrary to the term laptop, your actually NOT supposed to use them on your lap as your clothing will block the notebook's ventilation. You shouldn't use it on any surface that will block the ventilation, if you are, that could be the issue.

If overheating isn't the issue, it could also be battery settings, power save modes, etc, or an issue with fullscreen 3D clock settings, which updating the driver might fix.
