Hi I'm looking for a laptop for university (UK) which is able to play todays games reasonably well. Games include Half Life 2 and possibly Battlefield 2 etc.

I had been sold on the Dell 9300 with the 256Mb nVidea card however it seems large and heavy. I've now looked at the 6000 which is smaller and lighter, but that only goes up to a 128Mb X300.

Will the 6000 be able to play the games well, or not? And is a 17" screen worth the extra size and weight compared to a 15.4"?

    Thanks in advance

i do fine with my 6000's 128mb x300, but the 6800 is far far superior. the 9300 isn't actually that much bigger; about an inch larger all around and not much heavier. it seems that if you're willing to deal with the 6000's size and weight, the 9300 isn't a huge step up.

maybe if the 6000 is at the edge of what you're comfortable with, then the 9300 will be too big.

anyways, if you want to game, i'd say go for the 9300 with the 6800.

yea......i agree with getting a 9300 over the 6000 for gaming and for future use for games and stuff

the 6000d will definitely be able to play any game well enough, but the 9300 will blow it away. It really depends on whether you want to be more portable or not. Personally, I think both are pretty hard to carry around if you have a couple of books so might as well go all out with the 9300. It's a better deal too with coupons.

I'm thinking about a 9300 too. BTW, are there DELL coupons in the UK though? I think the original poster said he lived there...

9300 wins hands down. It's not even a competition.
