Hey guys , i have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with a Geforce 8600M GT 256mb , i would like to overclock my laptop in order to increase FPS more ...

I will be using the lastest nTune and i'm also using retail drivers 163.71 (161.86). (It says that it increases gameplay for a lot of recent games such as Bioshock)

1# What is the most stable core & mem clock you guys have set and that we can really see a difference in gameplay (FPS's) (Stable, no-artifacts, acceptable temp)

2# When Overclocking , how will we void the warranty? Like, the second we overclock? Or the time the video card is damaged and its our fault for overclocking? (Doesn't my warranty covers it? Its Dell's Complete Care 3-years, the most expensive one)

3# What temperature is the limit? What temperature you guys usually set as a limit?

THank you everyone for your time !!! By the way, i did not purchase the extra warranty , it just came with the purchase (I bought a open box Dell , which was new , but open box are orders canceled by clients , got it for crazy price)

I ended up running 590 core / 490 mem, but was stable at 610 core / 510 mem. I just bumped down a bit to ensure stability.

I undervolted my CPU, and temps seem to stabilize at 65C with extended gaming. Although 80C isn't unreasonable.

Don't worry about warranty. Yes it should void it, but they will never know if you bump the speeds back down if it is ever sent back for repair/replacement.

    not all cards can OC

or not all cards can OC as much

or else they'd just specify the card to run at a higher clock

    its luck of the draw

I had to use older pre 16x.xx driver versions to do the o/c. Then updated the video card's firmware to the o/c'd speeds, which only activate for "high performance 3D" applications (i.e. games).

Seems like 600 GPU and 500 MEM are typical limits for O/C'ing the DDR2 8600m GT's.

This renders over a 4000 3DMark06 score if that's worth anything, and my overall FPS in games like World in Conflict increased 20-30%

To simply oc you dont need to upgrade the cards firmware, although once you find a stable oc you can make those changes in your video cards bios.

There is plenty of info on the forums although it requires you to search for it ;)

I also tried High quality , in World In Conflicts, just played missions and they were smooth ... but i hate to low some customized settings to medium instead of high such as terrain quality & textures. All my games are played in 1152x864 resolution.
