hey guys, trying to decide between the asus g1s and dell inspiron 1520, just wanted some owners opinion/observations about gaming with these two systems. I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of the Asus, the cheapest I have found it here in Canada is $1889+tax/shipping, is it really THAT much better than the dell spec'ed out with 2ghz processor and 8600mGT?
if there is somewhere else I should post this, let me know thanks.

where in canada are u from? toronto?

Anyway, trust me. You will not regret purchasing the 1520 once you get your hands on it. None of the negative things I have read about the 1520 on this site.....are present in my 1520. I really though it was going to let me down and boy was I proven wrong. My games run flawless with the proper drivers on great settings. -
hey thanks, I appreciate owners opinions on this. Where am I from, well I move around alot and actually will be going to europe for a year next year, so the Asus's two year GLOBAL warantee is looking good. The Dell that I spec'ed out has 2ghz processor, 2gb ram, 8600mGT, 160gb5400rpm hdd, and I added some skullcandy GI headphones...all for $1689+tax/shipping. so the Asus isn't WAY above what the dell is, but both are already pushing the bank...
anyways I am getting off topic here, any more observations on the 1520 vs the G1s for gaming?

Well the G1s looks slightly better and has a GDDR3 memory for the graphics card as opposed to the DDR2 memory in the 1520.
-
I have a dell 1520 and the games that i have played so far on it run fine
-
the only real performance difference comes from the ddr2 vs ddr3, and you would pretty much be paying about $400 more for that single feature.
the 1520 can already run cs:s, bf2, hl2 at max settings with very smooth frame rates, and is a very nice machine. I've heard the 1520 is sturdier than the asus g1s, as well. -
If you plan on playing a on larger resolution than 1280x800, the DDR2 will let you down but otherwise it's fine.
-
I would also like to add that the DDR2 in the 1520 can handle F.E.A.R. on near max settings with a very good frame rate....as well as Command and Conquer 3, Splinter Cell, and Condemned.
-
but what resolution are you playing at?
-
My frien plays FEAR maxed 1024x768 on his 7600GT so it's normal that even the DDR2 8600GT can almost max it in a resolution near that

I'd go for the ASUS G1s. I love the quality and build of it. it's made from Taiwan, and Taiwan is known for excellent in quality computer parts ( ASUS to be exact).

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Asus c90 is also alternative if your looking for a good laptop. You can configure a c90 for 1500 easily or even less and still have pretty good specs.
-
$1540 with 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400RPM and 3 years warranty. No OS though, but changing the warranty for Vista HP will be same price
-
u shud see oblivion on my 1520....sweet jesus...lol..its crazy runs at max settings..
-
-
you'd be just fine with the dell 1520.

My Dell inspiron 1520 has a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 processor, this was the best I could get, will it suffice for gaming? Anyone else have a nice, gaming Inspiron 1520 with this processor? Thanks;
-
yea i have the same processor but my comp hasnt arrived. The GPU is more important for gaming and your processor is more than enough to handle the latest games. the 8600m GT is a ranked as a performance card by Chaz and will play most of the new games at decent settings.
-
t7500 is more than enough for games; it's the graphics card which will be the "bottleneck" in demanding games.
not to worry, it should be fine. -
well I have the 256MB NVIDI GeForce 8600M GT like you. So it should work out well, no?
-
hey guys, sounds great so far. The main thing I like the G1s for is the global warantee, since I will be going to europe nex year for a year.
Does anyone know of any canadian dell coupon codes?
