Hi guys,
I'm ordering a DELL Inspiron 1520 with Intel integrated graphics card .
I want to know if I can upgrade at a later date to Nvidia 8600 GT 256 MB ?
Is it possible to get a Nvidia card installed later in inspiron 1520?
please advise what to do ?
thanks

yes u can.

ekramcal ignore my other post where I said you cannot upgrade the graphics card.I just thought upgrading the graphics card is not possible as it is soldered to the motherboard and as it would VOID your warranty.

Laptops are quite difficult to customise after assembled. Is there any particular reason you have opted against the 8600 GT?
-
Uhh, integrated = NO upgrading at all?
Wtf?
That sucks about laptops, most things are upgradeable except the graphics.... -
Just found this which i have used in another post of mine but it actually applies here too.

It appears aslong as you have the 965 based chipset in your 1520, which you probably do, you can upgrade to a dedicated card EVEN if you have the Intel GMA 3100 integrated Graphicsdue to both having PCI Express x16 slots

I don't think it's that simple. I'm sure there's some BIOS and hardware settings that will prevent just soldering a GPU on a notebook mobo and expecting it to work. Unless you have MXM very rarely will one be successful at updating their GPU.

Anyways, even if Sipha is rigth, and it's possible, it's probably not worth it. The upgrade when you are configuring the laptop is $100. The upgrade after you have bougth a laptop is probably around $400+(sorry no source, just guessing). -
You CANNOT upgrade an Intel integrated graphics card. It's NOT possible. Period.
