So I got my new dell 9300 today, 2ghz m chip, 1 gig ram, 256 mb geforce 6800 go, and i was told i could run doom 3 with great settings no problem. Well, im having problems, it runs on the lowest settings and it runs like crap. Is it supposed to be like this or am i just getting screwed?

DooM3 should fly at max settings on that machine. First up, try installing the latest Omega Drivers. Be sure to turn off all the background services you can (antivirus programs, etc).

Have you tried any other games (especially intensive ones, a la Half-Life 2, Far Cry, UT2004)? Do you have similar problems in them? Also, does Windows itself seems sluggish (stuttering, slow boot up and shut down, unreasonable load times for programs)?

yah use non dell drivers, clean the system out from all that crap dell pre loads, unload/disable un used serives (search internet about disabling services), make sure hard drives and cd drives are on dma mode and not I believe pio mode....

And make sure you have no virus spyware and all that jazz

not sure what the prob is but i can tell you for a fact that i played entirely through doom 3 on my i6000d with the x300 128 meg vid card and i never experienced any slowdown in the entire game.

i didn't o/c it either. i just used the suggested settings.

same with HL2 run at 1680x1050 on my wuxga with suggested settings, no lag ever.

i have almost the exact same settings as you.
I would highly recommend reformatting and installing some modded drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com.
Make sure you download all the other drivers off dells website before you reformat, because its takes drivers to connect to the internet after the reformat and if you dont have the drivers on a cd or something then your kind of outta luck.

Do a format or somethign and change the drivers, Doom 3 SHOULD fly on that mahcine...if your machien is too slow, then what will run it? The Dell drivers aren't great..on my 700m, wiht the dell audio drivers, I heard a hissing sound from the headphone jack when headphones were plugged in --> I overwrote those drivers with non dell ones, and the sound was gone.

    Nice laptop, by the way!
