When will the Inspiron Laptop (Mainly 1720) have a deticated Nividia/Ati 512 graphics card.
-
not in sight lol, but seriously there are more important factors than memory size for graphics cards. for one 8600gt ddr3 with 256mb vram is better than 8600gt ddr2 with 512 vram

Dell is attempting to segment their laptops. Inspirons are going to be budget machines and are thus unlikely to have anything extraordinary as far as graphics. The Studios may start carrying better GPUs, but that's also unlikely. Dell wants customers to purchase XPS or Alienware machines if they need a graphics card.
-
When will we see a 256 W/ ddr3 then?
-
You won't. It's unlikely any current Inspirons will ever be getting graphics upgrades.
-
I guess that will be the last time I see an Inspiron 1520 and its descendants sport a decent mid-range GPU like the 8600m GT DDR2 if what you're saying is true.
-
Well some inspirons come with the 8600M GS 256MB GDDR3 now.
-
Which is a downgrade in my opinion compared to the old option. I've read that the 2 cards are supposed to be nearly the same on this forum but the extra shaders on the GT make me lean towards it despite the GS better video memory.
