Well, it turns out that I got the whole Mobo replaced (logical since the graphics card is embedded within),
But now the problem is that the mobo gets too hot (see img)
![]()
(and this is just 10 minutes of Unreal Tournament 3)
Just called Dell again,
They said "omg, we just changed the mobo... well, we're gonna send another one, and this time tell the DellTech to apply thermal paste where it has to..."
With SpeedStep disabled, the system's temperature is very stable, but while gaming, it seems like the CPU is downclocked, and I managed to overclock the GPU to 620/800... still.. the CPU downclocks while on speedstep... so that sux.
The Harddrive is making weird noises now, like its struggling to talk to the mobo.. so....
I guess they'll just change it again...
Btw, here are some pics from the ER...

Wow I am surpised smoke is not coming out of your laptop them are super hot temps like i have never seen before.
-
You probably shouldn't OC your card if you're worried about heat.

I cooked my eggs n sausage today on the back of my lappy

BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
this is a mobo problem
as a matter of fact, my OC temps were barely 85 ~ 90 C on the GPU
and the Cores were at 70 MAX...
(with my old mobo)
oh and the HWMonitor pic is without OC -
well, its xps, free at home repairs, guess 3rd party technicians just love dell.

Indeed...
Well my final report is as follows, just so you guys know, even if your
Care-O-Meter is: Lo ||-- |---- ---------- ----------- ||Hi
DellTech came over today, apologized for the clumsiness of the last one, that did not even check the heat dissipator's contact with the GPU/CPU, I asked him (as if I did not know) "Dude, so there wasn't thermal paste applied?" He said: "No, there wasn't, I'll replace the mobo again, just in case the heat damaged any components".
So he changed it again, applied thermal paste, and noticed that the last DellTech had also broken my palmrest's screws and is now a little loose, so he phoned up Dell, and asked for a new palmrest...
As he was leaving, he left me two small syringes with thermal paste, just in case... (I wonder, was it a gift? lolz, or was it a .. "dude I don't want to come back here and do this")
Anyway, my PC is stable as is, and well, I can finnally game again(no throttling, slowdown or any of that crap).
Let me chant a single w00t. -

BenLeonheart, what was wrong with your original 8600M GT, It was overheating or what?

Throttling issue...
You know that one when you play for some time the framerates go all skippy on you?
Even 3DM06 went down like 1,000 points... -
But I took off the CPU cover (the GPU is located next to the CPU) and turned my zalman notebook cooler on full speed and my maximum temperature I had was 93°C so that's not 95°C so everything was going smooth..
But if you read my problem my temperatures lowered A LOT a few days ago and the fps are so low that everything is just unplayable.. and my 3DMARK06 score is cut in half... -

As I was telling you, the heat might have damaged some components, I would strongly suggest you Phone ASUS, as I can assure you tried every "Fix" possible as well
-
I guess that's the best solution, contact ASUS..
But I need my notebook every day and that will give some problems.. but yeah.
If you read the Asus part of this forum some people their 8600M GT in the G1S died and in some cases Asus changes the G1S motherboard for the (new) G1Sn motherboard (it has the 9500M GS 512MB DDR2 on it) If I send my G1S in repair to Asus I will push for the G1Sn motherboard, the 9500M GS performs almost the same as the 8600M GT and it runs much cooler.. -

Well, you can debate that on the phone(about the new mobo), and,... not necsarilly do you have to send it in, I also use it on an everyday basis, im a programmer, graphic designer, gamer, writer, etc..
i NEED the pc.
so just ask th em to send someone over. they'd do it...
(if you bought your PC in the USA, have them contact a local ASUS repair-dealer nearby)
thats what i did with mine, I bought it off the USA Dell, but I live in Honduras, so they just transferred the order, and... thats it.
tops time they took to replace the whole thing was 30 minutes.
in which i had time to observe the sunlight, birds, animals, pet my puppy, phone-a-friend, scratch myself, etc.. -
I live in Belgium (Europe) and I bought my G1S in a local computer store over here. IF Asus doesn't repair at home, the best thing I can do is let my computer store handle the problem (send it to Asus), right? -
BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
Yes sir, that would be the best, let them handle it...(you still have warranty right?)
-
But on my invoice is written "All products are covered by the factory guarantee"
(I don't know if "invoice" is translated correctly)
-

Its ok, you should be covered then, if anything "bad"happens, they have to respond for it.
Good luck with your lappy! -
Look like now I played cod2 all on lowest settings and I had 28 fps wooooow
The GPU temperature was 70°C.. normally 93°C (having normal fps)
So that's really not normal..
Dell REPLACED my 8600m GT.
