    Hi guys,

Basically I was wondering whether an upgrade to 6GB RAM (from 4GB) would make a difference in playing games such as crysis and battlefield 3?

and a further question, would an SSD install into the DVD drive bay make a difference?

What about combining the 2, how much difference would that make?

Thanks in advance for your replies :)

Not really, no. Games today don't really hog all that much RAM, but RAM is so cheap that I think you should just go ahead and upgrade it. The RAM may help if you have a bunch of things running in the background though. Since you're doing it anyway, I'd go from 4 to 8 just to make it worthwhile.

As for the SSD, it'll help with load times for the game and for levels. That's about it. Combined, I'd say you would not notice any difference in framerate for gaming. The GPU, and to a much lesser extent the CPU, trumps all.

Thanks for you reply. My laptop is capable of running BF3 on high, near full res with a very good fps. But with crysis its struggling. I defiantly think my GPU is holding me back

Your supposition is absolutely correct. Aside from a difference in load times, an SSD has no other impact when it comes to gaming. Even then, in most games, it's only a few seconds anyway. Improved loading times are more noticeable in a huge game, such as WoW, but other than that, it's pretty negligible.
