    Hi all.

Im thinking of buying a Dell e1505 but would like to know how it handles World of Warcraft with the ATI X1400 card.
I know it will run WoW but what fps are you getting at 1280x800 with all graphic settings to max in 40-man instances etc.

well WoW only required a Geforce 2 or better... so you'll def be able to run it very well, on that res you should get good FPS at med or high. I just DLed the free 10-day trial of it last night and once Iget my D820 I'm gonna try it out.

I ran around Stormwind on my M1210 w/ Nvidia 7400, which is comparable to an X1400 I think, and I was getting around 20-30 fps in the city at 1280x800 with max settings.

Granted, it's not a 40-man instance, but who needs anything above 10 fps in there to press frostbolt over and over again ;)

If you really wanna test your video card, I suggest running around the Ironforge Auction House :D

30 FPS at 1600x1200 (No Bloom). 60 FPS at 1200x800 again, no bloom.

Bloom cuts my framerate in half (with everything else maxed out).

You should be okay in most areas, save for 40-man instances in which you may notice a slowdown... but then again, most ppl do anyway. It's playable, I believe.

On my system, I get on average with just about everything maxed out (except AA is on 2X, terrain distance is on 2nd lowest, and AF is on 2nd lowest also) i get on average 50-60FPS, and 25-30FPS when in IF or Org (largest cities in the game btw). My resolution is 1280x800.

The x700 is slightly better than the x1400, but you should be able to play it ok. Personally though, if I knew how much WoW I would be playing when I bought my laptop, I would have gotten something much closer to a DTR.

A real important thing you need to look at is how many fans the laptop has. Playing WoW for hours on end really pushes your laptop to the point where the GPU will create excess heat, affecting the CPU temp and forcing it to downclock itself. You really want to have 2 fans.

In the end, a 17-inch laptop is much better overall for gaming than most 15.4 inch laptops because of choice of graphics cards and much better cooling solutions. If you are looking to game a lot with your laptop (an automatic yes if you are serious about WoW), don't skimp of a silly x1400; go for the best that you can reasonably afford. Your eyes will thank you later.

I'll have to agree with dagamer34. If you can afford a better graphics solution, go for it. However, if all you can have is an X1400, WoW should work just fine :)
