I was wondering what the memory and core speed are on the 128mb x300. I heard somewhere that dell underclocks their x300s in their laptops but I dont know. my stock speeds are 297/216

yep they do under clock alot!! the actual speeds should be around 375/275 (MY x200m's core clock is 350MHz, so the x300 should be faster) NEVER TRUST DELL. I HAD TO REPLACE 3 LAPTOPS WITH THEM, and by the way, their tech support SUCKS!

I think your x300's speeds are pretty standard for Dell 6000s. I've heard that you can safely overclock the x300 quite a bit if you want to eke out some better performance, though.

yeah that was my question. compared to other x300s isnt it underclocked. i've also heard that the x600 is just an overclocked 300... so i'm planning on bumping it up on this one. about the warranty... its illegal right? but how would they go about proving you overclocked it into a problem? :D just a thought

funny thing is that i have a personal vendetta against hp. it seems that dell is such a love/hate comp manufacturer, loyalists swear by it, non loyalists denounce it as the cr@p hole of the computing universe.

There's a difference between illegal, and breach of warranty. :) Overclocking would be the latter.

If you really screw up an overclock, there might actually be burn marks between the GPU and the heat pipe, and they can definitely tell what you've been doing. Also, the GPU itself might be permanently fried. But if you try clocking up conservatively, monitor your GPU temperature constantly, and don't bump the frequency up all the way immediately, you can probably find a safe speed to overclock without doing damage.

i was looking at my previous post and i can't believe i was so reckless as to actually use the word illegal. linguistic difficulty. anyone know what safe x300 overclocking speeds generally are?
