also, you might want to include some more details in your post if you want to get some answers.

Thanks. Recently acquired Dell e1405, which I was led to believe was ok for gaming. Video card doesn't seem capable of handling. Has anyone had any success, via patches or upgrades, of getting Oblivion to work on this system?

First off, the E1405 is terrible for gaming, sorry. It doesnt even have a a graphics card, nothing dedicated. It has the integrated GMA 950 like mentioned above that wont do squat for any type of 3d app. There is no way integrated or even a card with less then 8 pixel pipelines is gonna be able to get playable frame rates in Oblvion. Sorry buddy, but youll have to play it on another pc, hopefully you have a capalbe desktop.

BTW Oblivion takes a lot of power.

Thanks for the input. What laptop would you recommend for gaming w/o killing me on price?

I along with a lot of other peole here have the E1705 with the beastly 7900GS. 20 pixel pipelines and tons of overclocking ability. It will handle anything you will throw at it. Of course, thats going to cost you somewhere around 1300. What kind of desktop do you have if you have one. Dropping 250 on a new GPU would do the trick for new games, especially Oblivion. Another thought is to sell your E1405 and put that towards a new laptop. If your going to use it to game, the E1705 is worth the price.

I currently have Oblvion on it running 1680x1050 with AA and AF plus all details set to high. Lets just say it looks amazing on the UXGA screen. Its a real treat.

anywhere from high 20s to mid 60s. i average about 40 fps. id rather turn up the detail then have the fps. in some places its well worth it.

i have my card overclocked 75 mhz though, which does help. im sure when i go up to 500 mhz core ill average 2-5 more.

Let me guess, Dell told you that. They did the same thing for my laptop and its GMA 900. Now, I will be buying another notebook in about a month...and it surely will not be from Dell.

Which is why people shouldn't believe what Dell (or any company for that matter) says. The description is completely useless, its the specs that matter. Next time post the specs on forums like these and people will be able to tell you whether the laptop will actually do what it's advertised to do.
