Not really - they usually have really slow download speeds for me. FilePlanet isn't that great either (waiting 45 minutes in line? Meh.)

Gamer's Hell is probably the best download site for demos and patches and whatnot. Followed closely by FileFront. Softpedia is good too. Those are the ones that I usually use, and I'll only use places like GameSpot or FilePlanet as a last resort (because their servers are so fricking slow unless you have a payed account with them).

Most any "well known" site won't have any adware or spyware or anything - it really just comes down to download speeds and how many hoops they make you jump through (i.e., some sites make you sign up for a free account, others make you wait in line, etc.).

most demos wont have spyware becuase it is very illigal to attach a money making program to somthing you didn't make. The legal reprocusions woudn't be worth it. as long as your downloading the from a large site you wil be fine, if you are super worried about spyware and crap stay away from torrents, even if its a demo, however torrents are usually fine too, just read the comments.

I use gamespot and steam to get demos. Steam works well. Gamespot is really nice because I have a subscription so the downloads run at 1.5 megabytes per second normally.

I like Filefronts dl speed but most of the time i use a torrent.

Check out FEAR Combat, the free mulitplayer version of FEAR as lawz mentioned.

There also might be free games that should be more enjoyable then a demo depending on what types of games you like to play.
