Indie dev remaking Descent with modern graphics, sound [Ars Technica]
I read this at work today and it literally made my day, week, month, and year. In fact I think I made a remark to the effect of "omg they're remaking Descent!" and people looked at me like they had no idea what I'm talking about.
I played the hell out of this game when I was a kid, then I played the hell out of the second one, then I discovered the mission editor and tinkered around with that, then we got reasonably fast internet and I played the hell out of multiplayer, etc. etc. etc.
Seems like it's just one person doing this project, but I hope hope hope it sees a playable release!
Watching that demo video and hearing the (class 5?) laser brought a tear to my eye

AWESOME! Like you I played Descent when I was, well not quite a kid, but close enough (in my 20's). Descent 2 a lot more than original descent. Single player was fun, then spent a lot of time with multiplayer with friends, then editing levels was a lot of fun, and I couldn't believe it when I got my Monster 3D card and played it more and more. Excellent game, way ahead of its time. I hope this comes to fruition too.

Might have to fire up descent 3 this weekend. I wonder if it'll still work.

Played D3 about a year ago; installed on Win 7 x64 and ran without issue. Even worked with my wireless 360 controller.
