Also the equivalent of the GTX?
-
As far as 3dmark06 is concerned, the 9800M GTX should be similar to the 9600GT. You'd have to look at the old GTS for the 9800M GT/8800M GTX
If we're talking about hardware, you could say that the 9800M GT is the mobile 9600GT and the 9800M GTX the mobile 8800GT -
-
According to notebookchecks, the 9800M GT & 8800M GTX have ~9500. If you add 20%, you get ~11500, which is the 9600GT's score
-
Wait if its almost 9600gt, you can play crysis on max...
-
At 1280x800? I doubt one with a 9800M GTX would get a 1280x800 screen
-
I play Crysis on high at 1280x800 just fine with an 8800m GTS. The 8800m GTX's play it at higher resolutions just fine, though my CPU kind of cripples the physics at a higher resolution.
-
I don't know why you guys fear of crysis so much, like the end of gaming world. I played it under 16801x1050, all high, 2xAA, and got average of 30fps.
-
so 9800m gt and the 8800m gtx is similar to the desktop 8600gt?
wow...thats kinda dissapointing..
i always somehow thought that the 8800mgtx is similar to the desktop 8800gts, at least the 8800gt....
=\ -
-
so my initial thoughts are right...
so was that info wrong nirvana?
i know 3dmark isnt everything, but thats a bigg difference.. -
you were wrong because you say they are equal to desktop 8600 GT
-
Desktops though, as you say have faster CPUs, faster RAM and that counts a lot.
Especially the CPU... -
-
i dont believe that a 9600gt is at the 8800GTX performance level, 3dmark06 proves nothing guys.
@ Eleron, isnt the 8600gt 128bit? -
The 8600GT performs like the 7800GTX and the 8600GTS between the 7900GS and the 7950GT when I checked last summer.
The 8600GT is 128bits yes, but the 7800GTX doesn't have a very high memory clock (256MB 7800GTX has GDDR3 1200 IIRC) and the increased shader power eats that difference in bandwidth.
To get a 2k difference because of RAM and CPU, you have to have a hell lot of difference. My desktop (8600GT, 1.5GB DDR 400, Sempron 3100+) scores higher than my C90S in 3dmark06 in Vista and I have the same performance at 1280x1024 on my desktop than 1680x1050 on my laptop.
Notebookcheck reports 9700 on the 9800M GT with a Q6600 and they say it's similar to the 8800GS, which is slower than the 9600GT
@brainer: he meant 8800M GTX I believe
Also, notebookcheck seems to have some errors for power consumption for the 9700M GT and up. I mean, they are reporting the 9700M GT at 45W, 9800M GT/S at 60W and 9800M GTX at 75W. That's totally not possible lol. The 8800M GTX is 35W -
I won't be surprised if the 9600gt is faster than the 8800m gtx -

Edit: Just came across this article and even though I wasn't looking for a direct comparison (just looking at general 8800m gtx performance) looks like I was wrong. Vshade you may be onto something unless I'm missing something.

Isn't the 640mb version of the 8800 GTS within spitting distance of the 9600 GT anyways?
-
Clock by clock, the laptop chips are always performing under their desktop counterpart so that's why. The 8700M GT is not even performing as good as the 8600GT.
@Mikel: The 9600GT performs a bit better. The 9600GT's strengh lies in SLI though. For whatever reason it's the only card that truly benefit the 80~100% performance boost promised by nvidia. It was really nice when it was released because 2 9600GTs cost less than a 8800GTS 512 and performed the same. -
-
It's got to be in the same ballpark. Honestly I wouldn't mind paying a little over $2000 for the portable equivalent of a $1000 gaming rig.

wasn't it shown that the 9600 gt tested in sli on a nvidia board only increased so much because the board clocks the graphics cards higher in sli?
