    Hey guys,

Here is what I need. I am looking at buying a Desktop X800XL for $170 shipped. But is it better than the 256MB AIT 9800? By the way, both are AGP.

Also, if did do it, what do you think I could be for the 9800 if I sold it?

    Thanks in advance. :)

I have a 9800XT in my desktop - the X800XL is MUCH faster than the 9800 series. It has a newer architecture, faster memory, etc.

I would take a look at a 7800GS AGP - that's the best AGP card you can buy. Or, the 6800GS if you want to save money.

the x800xl has more pixel pipelines and vertex shaders than the 9800. also, is has a 256-bit memory bandwidth against the 9800's 128. also, it was ddr3 and the 9800 has ddr1.

in comparison.. the 9800 is like the having a toyota camry SE, sure it looks fast but it aint.. the x800xl is to a camry like a toyota supra... newer, faster, better

Nope. My 9800XT has a 256-bit memory interface and DDR2 memory. The Pro also has 256-bit as well. The 9800SE had 128-bit interface.

The non-XT 9800's had DDR only I believe.

    look at the chart here:

    http://www.guru3d.com/article/content/196/

i would copy/paste the chart, but i cant format it nice enough.

also note..these are PCIe cards...but it is relatively the same.

    http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/768/2/agp_graphics_cards_compared_page_2_ati_offerings/index.html

will show you the clock speed on an x800xl AGP flavor.

also, as chazman421, the 7800 agp is the BEST and most likely LAST agp card. if you are going to spend the money for it, i think it would be best to spend the money to get yourself into PCIe, and then get a newer card.

(person is in the same boat you are in now, 9800->x800xl/xt)

    hope this helps.
