I have a few questions regarding Desktop vs Notebook GPUs
I'm pretty sure about it but I wanted to know if the 8600 GT is better than the 8600M GT. I think it is....but....if so....how much better?
-
-
yes it is. noticably, but not all that much.
-
im fascinated as well.
-
Didnt he say the same card???
-
Oh now i see, there is 8600 and 8600M, ok--ididnt knowthat
-
no the 8600M GT is in notebooks the M after 8600 stands for mobile, for desktops its just 8600 GT
dam you beat me to answering your own question -
IIRC, mobile cards are just underclocked and undervolted desktop cards. The performance difference can be guessed by the core and memory clocks.

Desktop video cards are better than the mobile video cards. THe desktop DDR3 8600 GT is better than the 8600m GT.
-
Ok cool....
How much better is the 8600 GTS than than the 8600 GT? -

okay, that's a little over the top.
there is some difference but not like a huge 100 dollar or anything difference -
seriouslyyyy

To which part?
-
what are the differences, how much of an advantage is there from the gts to the gt?
just clock speed or what? -

Hmm... well clocks are most likely different, but i really dont look. Just google it
-
well...
How much better is the 8800 GTS than the 8600 GTS -
compared to a Dell 8600M GT
a factory overclocked version of 8600GT(cost the same as non-overclocked versions) have double the memory clock(1600 vs 800), 600 core clock compared to 475 core.
Seems like some very big differences. -
If they have the same core, desktop GPU are cooler, yet more powerful than their Mobile bros... (Cant have the same clock on both.)
The heat generated from a T61P when running NFS Carbon is really BURNING !!! This is from experience... -

And the 8800 has more stream processors too. It is a faster card, the 8600GTS is a mid range card in the desktop world. The 8800 is a high end card.
Here you can get a pretty nice comparison, the 8800GTS is twice as fast as the 8600GTS in shader operations and in pixel fill rate. Bandwidth is twice as fast too. Sure you can clock the 8600GTS but you can also clock the 8800, the 8600 isn´t even in reach of the 8800 cards
