Okay I have been looking all around the forum for about 45 minutes now... and I think i'm just posting this because I am in denial, but I would much appreciate just hearing my case up front and yelling at me for posting this and calling me stupid and telling me that it's a lost cause. I would atleast understand then my circumstances. I own an HP Pavilion zd7000 Notebook with 3.4 ghz processor, 2 gb of ram... but one small problem... it's equipped with a 128mb Nvidia GeForce Go5600. I don't think I need to stress how pathetic that is. From what I have gathered there is no way to just purchase a new card and replace the older one. If i'm wrong please oh please tell me how stupid I am. But I would really like to... if there is a way to mabye have the whole motherboard replaced but with the new card... i would be a lot more willing to dish out another grand or so for that. I really do not know enough about laptops or notebooks, I just try to keep my head above water. Or is the only option I have... to get rid of my current notebook and just buy a new one with the new card? If any more information needs to be given please just say. Thanks all too much for any help you are willing to give me. And sorry about the stupidity of the question.

Yep, most notebooks don't have upgradeable graphics. There was only a small percentage of notebooks that have upgradeabel graphics, and practically all were based of some sort of modular slot. The HP ZD7000 did not have one of those, and so its graphics card cannot be replaced.

Replacing the whole motherboard and upgrading it to something thats a bit more powerful may be possible. The ZD8000 may have the same chassis, and it may be possible to replace the motherboard, but its something that I would advise against. It would be very expensive, and its much better to simply save up for a new notebook.

Your one and only option would be to sell your zd7000 and buy a new notebook.

okay well that's what I was afraid you all would say. but atleast I know the truth now... :( It's just that I use this notebook when I should be using a desktop... but my job (military) has me moving around too much and a notebook is just too much more conveniant. this notebook wasn't exactly cheap, it cost me a good 3 grand. that's why I was hopeing there was SOME way around it. But bad news as it is, thank you.

And if you're willing to spend up to a grand on the card, definitely do consider getting a new notebook - there are quite a bit of good deals out there. And if you're going to stick with HP and/or Nvidia GPUs, I recently got their DV9 series with a 7600 Nvidia GeForce GO with 256mb dedicated GPU from compUSA for 799 after 2 rebates (it's now 899 I believe). Anyway, there are plenty of options at that price point.
